How do I find somebody at Scottish Power who can answer my simple question?

  • Thank you Malc - I've really got no problem with E.on apart from its too expensive. I've given up with Scottish Power. They finally replied to my email where I explained that I had rang twice and got nowhere by suggesting that I ring the call centre!

Ovo Energy is looking to be the next best and as they have good reviews I've decided to go with them.

Totally understand saxonrosecliff. Sorry, forgot to ask the other day if you've registered for Price Alerts? This is an online service for those on fixed price tariffs. We send emails to let customers know when a new version of their tariff is available. Not much use now, I know, but something I should've mentioned.

Sorry I forgot about this but glad you've been okay with us generally.

E7 meter is just a pain if you want to switch often, and end up with non-E7 tariff each time.

E.On was terrible on unit rate for a few years, so I left, but lately they were not bad, provided you go through external Collective Switches. They are supposed to tell you about cheaper E.On tariffs, so they go round the rules by having MSE or others do a Collective Switch. "It's not one of our tariffs, so we don't need to tell you."

So, you can switch back on a cheap one year fix, which are usually competitive as a Collective Switch, get your meter swapped to a non-E7, and you will be ready to switch again when the one year is up.

Or you can be super vigilant, and keep doing E.On to E.On switches when competitive collective switches happen.

    Hi Pincher

It's not that we don't want to tell people about the collective tariffs we've been involved with, it's that we're not allowed to. As they're not one of our core tariffs (as listed on our website), to promote or market them would break industry rules and possibly leave us open to a large fine. Instead, customers need to go through a Third Party who've negotiated a particularly tailored deal with us. This doesn't just apply to us. All suppliers are in a similar boat when it comes to collectives.

Totally understand the frustration this can cause and we've fed this back to the regulator. This has resulted in a new slant being taken and, going forward, we'll be able to let customers know if they can save with a collective through the 'could you pay less' message we put on bills. This only applies to collectives that can be signed up to after the auction has taken place. Not ideal, I know, but better than before.

Hope this helps explain where we're at with collective tariffs Pincher. Let me know if I can help further as happy to do so.
