BG came to service ours under contract and the heat exchanger was shot but the young lad said it was fine and it was under the contract. Brilliant....


Then he cam down from the roof void and said he was sorry but he had smoke bombed the flue going through the roof void and promptly condemned the system.


They quoted £2.2 K just for a new flue fitted (worked out at £96 an hour inc Vat.)


Normal plumber quoted £600 but said that we could fork that out and the boiler could just go in a week, or so.
New system, modern and very economical, Same system Gas man £5k, British Gas £8.5 K
No prizes for guessing who we went with.
Felt a bit miffed to be honest because we actually saved BG the cost the renew the Heat Exchanger......
But they did give us 2 new leccy heaters to keep us warm till we got a new System.
Being fitted tomorrow, cant wait for a bath lol

The trouble with any service engineer putting an 'at risk' label on boilers and saying 'yes' you can still use it, what happens if it blows or sets on fire, isn't your house insurance going to say a big fat NO to any claim you may needto put in.....
