Virtual machines

I had a problem I thought might be fixed by running an earlier version of Windows than 10 which I now have on all of my machines. I looked up how to install a VM and have installed VirtualBox and pulled down an XP and a Win7 machine from Microsoft.
Everything worked just fine apart from not solving the issue I installed the VMs for (seems it wasn't Win 10 to blame) but I'll keep the VMs in case I need them again. On the Microsoft download page I see..
Please note that these virtual machines expire after 90 days. We recommend setting a snapshot when you first install the virtual machine which you can roll back to later.
Am I correct in assuming that the snapshots I have taken will work indefinitely and the expiry isn't date related but works on some countdown within the virtual machine which will just get reset each time I load up one of the snapshots?

From what you've said, that sounds like the case.
I guess the idea is that you can't use the free VMs as a continually-running permanent system, but you can have a clean installation ready for up to 90 days of testing.0
