Order cancelled by seller without my consent?

I purchased something *as BIN*, and next day got a refund saying they won't go ahead with the transaction as they didn't price it high enough, blaming it on some issues with ebay. I also got a message from ebay saying "Good news, your order was cancelled.
The seller refunded **** back to your original payment method, and you don't need to do anything else." Now, it's not "good news" as I'd rather have the item. No reason provided for the cancelation that I can see. My question is- how did they manage to do that without presumably incurring a defect? Or did they(get a defect?) I'm just miffed I suppose because it didn't ask me whether I'd like to cancel.

You can leave them negative feedback which will result in a defect.0

The cancellation is automatic once the seller hits refund, if the seller selected the item is out of stock or they can't fulfil then they get a defect.
The system used to give a defect if the seller cancelled as buyer changed their mind but the buyer hadn't sent a message, not sure if that's still the case.
