My call to SP was answered quickly, an engineer called within 48 hours, told us we had an old dish which was rusting, connected up his box of tricks, confirmed we had 2 fails, replaced the dish and was gone, all within 30 minutes. Fantastic service (costing £60 for the year, which was a special offer). BTW the Sky Protect engineer who called was in a SKY Van, very knowledgeable, very polite and efficient.
That sounds like a Sky Protect promotional leaflet!
Regardless of the "fantastic service" (which you paid for), are you really going to continue paying £60 a year to cover an eventuality which others easily get for free by simply threatening to cancel?
You do realise that Sky charge £65 for a call out? That's only £5 more than you are going to pay EVERY YEAR that you have the Sky Protect policy...0 -
Insurance is a gamble.
If the kit breaks down then the insurance premium is worth it and the bet pays off. If the kit never breaks down then you've lost your stake (premium).:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

I have never paid anybody to insure my Sky setup (other than through my home cover), and I have never had to pay for an engineer to come on to fix a problem. Sky aren't stupid enough to encourage a customer to leave for the sake of a £65 charge. FWiW, the problem goes away with Sky Q as the system is effectively rented so all service calls are included in the Sky subscription. I was told that this includes new remotes (but not if chews by the owner's dog). This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I know this is quite an old thread, but I think it's worth mentioning that Sky Protect doesn't just offer cover on boxes, but on other gadgets too. The value is fairly decent compared to some other insurers. Probably not worth getting just for a Sky box, but maybe if you have other items you want to cover too.
There's some more about it here: https://www.householdmoneysaving.com/sky-protect/0 -
They seem to be having a push at the moment - I've been bombarded with calls from a known Dom & Gen phone number for Sky Protect since I renewed the 12 month contract end of October -also I've had a discount email and a letter - £95.88 pa !!0

Hi Tracy,
I worked for Sky Protect up to just over a year ago and have friends there still. Avoid the insurance as it is not necessary with the Sky Q system and even if you have Sky HD they will replace /fix your box must times anyway. The idea is to use the Sky system to leverage other insurance (tvs laptops, phones etc). You can get more competitive quotes for your gear elsewhere. It is legal to offer this service, but the way your data is handed to a third party is not what you'd expect. The attitude of selling add ons to what we called "specials" (people with little understanding) was particularly distasteful. I'm 6 told it hasn't changed but this is a sales cold call offering customer service "on behalf of Sky". Avoid.0
