Re the Norwich couple at Bellagio

I think Bellagio would have stopped the noise or moved the couple if they had complained.

We are from Norwich and had cause to ring security in the middle of the night at Orleans once because of noisy neighbours, but that was only one night, no way would I have accepted 3 nights of it

Good report Seldom Seen Kid. I think your taxi price was probably fine though, we paid $12 or so plus tip ($15+) to/from MGM a good few years back, maybe 6 years ago. We did a day trip to SF while we were staying there. I don't think $16 is excessive, there's an airport surcharge. We haven't had a taxi on arrival the last few trips I don't think, but in the past we've just asked the driver to take us via Swenson. Sometimes they say there's traffic.

$16 is fine. It was the fact that he wanted to take the freeway, and thus overcharge us. Husband has a print out of the route, and reads it before landing, so he has it memorised. The driver was a bit off when we got out, but I think he knew he was in the wrong.

2nd part of the story. Taxi from MGM Signature to airport. Husband is convinced we are going to be ripped off, and is like a boxer preparing to step in to the ring. However, driver is a great guy, who takes the right route, and charges $12. Husband gives him $20, and tells him he got the other drivers tip.

I don't recall you mentioning a car at LA - was LA ok without a car? It's one place I found very spanned out, I wondered if it was do-able with public transport. We had a car when we went so didn't look into public transport.

We did not have a car in LA. LA is not a place I wanted to visit, eg we are not in to films so Hollywood holds no appeal. However, I was very keen to visit SM and VB, and very much enjoyed both places. I can imagine LA is not very do-able on public transport, but we choose our hotels wisely.

The hotels we stay in don't have the pens by the lifts anymore, I used to get loads, is it just the MGM group that do?

Not sure. Most of the collection is from 1 very drunken year when pen collection seemed to be a good idea. MGM Sig has 3 pens in the room - all 3 placed in the bag, next day 3 more pens appeared.

The Los Angeles area is vast, and IMHO best thought of as several separate places. You need to decide which if any to visit, and where to stay for each. For example you might stay in Santa Monica, and in Anaheim (for Disneyland), but ignore everything else.

You can use public transport in the central city area and Hollywood, etc but as you get further from the centre a car becomes increasingly desirable.

    Just my 2c.

Obviously I am relaying their story, but they did complain nightly and the party people were told to keep in down. They were given a $150 credit as a apology. I think they were too nice to kick up a massive fuss.

I have read that section back and hope people understand the comment that I was making. Reading a lot of LV forums / threads so much is about getting stuff for free, and some people in the end seem to think / demand the world for free. However, here we have people who are simply having a great holiday.

$1.25 from our airport hotel to SM was a great price - ride was about 45 minutes. What I would say is make sure you know in advance where to get off. The stops announced are just the street names, whereas in LV it would be the street name and the attraction that is there.

I tend to agree with you about demanding stuff for free, it does seem that Vegas brings the worst out in people in that respect, although some of that may be down to how Vegas has changed and now wants to charge for lots of things that used to be free.

If the party people did keep it down, then $150 credit would seem ok, I assumed from your first mention they hadnt complained at all.

when I rang security at Orleans in middle of the night they did get a bit quieter, I didnt take the complaint any further and I didnt get or ask for any compo

The couple seemed happy with the outcome, and it goes to show that no matter where you are staying if you get bad neighbours then it can affect you.

Demanding free stuff is not directed at anyone on here, and is more a sweeping statement (probably more directed to people on myvegas groups on facebook). They seem to read about person A who gambles $10k in a week and gets everything comped, and then thinks the same applies to them. However, they have acquired express comps of $0.63 (my amount btw and shows just how little we gambled this holiday). Now I can tell you that we did not ask for anything comped, nor did we ask for any comp for being waken up at 5:50, we just paid what we were required to pay (we knew the price of the buffet when going in and charging it to our room; the rf was clearly listed on our booking etc).

Regarding upgrades (room / views etc). We research and knew exactly the room we were getting and paid for. The one bedroom suite was booked at a great price (even adding in the rf), and in any other city would have cost at least twice as much. The upgrade for the first 4 nights from a standard to the one bedroom suite for $20 per night was a bargain, and we would have paid more (not $380 more though). We have twice in the past been upgraded for free, but at no point have I considered the fact it cost $80 disappointing. We were lucky and had floor 31 of 38 with a strip view, but we would have been happy with a lower floor and a mountian view. The fact that you are in a nice room, in a great hotel, in an amazing place is what really matters (as heard from the couple from Norwich having their dream holiday).
