  • I just got my panels installed on last Friday (18/12/2015), can anyone kindly tell me if I can still beat the 14/01/16 deadline please? (assuming I can post the feed-in tariff form on Monday), thx a lot....

Top 'must have' things for our next house (likely to be family home for 20 years+) is a large south facing roof area.

We have SE and SW facing roofs with panels on. Without a battery that's handy as it gives a good supply of electricity all day long, catching the early morning and late afternoon sun better than a S facing roof would do.

Didn't you ask the installers for assurance of that before handing over the money? Missing the deadline would be a disaster if you've paid thousands for the system!

For those considering PV Solar, HMRC has just issued a public consultation on increasing VAT on energy-saving products and labour from 5 to 20% to comply with a recent European Court of Justice ruling.

The way to maximise the return from a PV system is to self-consume as much as possible to avoid buying retail domestic electricity inclusive of VAT from your energy supplier. This might mean scheduling your washing machine or dishwasher to come on at the middle of the day when your pv system is generating the most power.

Is there another topic for making the best use of the solar generated electricty? Have done a search but can't find one. If there is can someone post a link to the correct topic, please?

If you go to the 'Green and Ethical' section of MSE forum there are a number of threads dealing with this subject.

If you have a hot water tank the obvious way is to divert excess generated electricity via an Immersun(or similar) to an immersion heater.

Thanks for that. Already have a device for diverting excess energy to the hot water tank and it works well when we have a sunny day (bit rare at the moment!).
