O/S Daily Thursday 17th December 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him in a bit.
Still dark, damp underfoot but mild.
Dinner last night was spag bol. I also remembered to get the chicken out to defrost, so tonight we’ll be having chicken in a creamy mushroom sauce, thinking it might be nice with some HM veg rice, I have some different veggies in the freezer from when they were on YS or on offer.
I did get majority of the xmas cards written yesterday, so will get the posting one’s in the post today. I also ordered the ps4 game DS2 wanted, pleased I waited as 3 weeks ago it was £39.99 now it’s £29.99 same game (I hope I’ve ordered the right one!) from the same place. It’s not a new release game so maybe the price has dropped as new more sought after one’s have come been released in time for xmas.
I will also crack on with the “to do” list – I must do some housework, washing, drying and ironing, xmas cake needs to be marzipaned so it can dry out a bit before icing. Will be writing a shopping list and menu plan too – ready for shopping tomorrow.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all. Thanks for the start nmlc. Gosh it feels so mild it's hard to believe it's December. No fire needed this morning. The 3 DGDs were here for sleepover and school run this morning but they are still fast asleep for now. Chaos still to come. Then they are back again tonight after swimming/diving clubs for late tea and another sleepover.
A busy day today with appointments. This morning I am at the hospital to see the Urologist - what a waste of time that will be! I just hope it's not that obnoxious Registrar I saw last time. This afternoon I have an appointment with the nurse for instructions on the bp monitor they are loaning me. Then Mr TA has an appointment (changed from yesterday) with his GP. In among I must fly into Sainsbobs to top up dairy and veg supplies. Then back to get tea on for 7 of us!! (And if I have time, says DD, could I call in at Game to pick up a DS they have for her!! I said if she gives me a sweeping brush I will shove it you know where and sweep the pavements as I go!)
It doesn't seem right to be waffling on about our lives when Csarina is going through so much pain and anguish and my thoughts are constantly with her. No words of ours can help but it may give her strength to know we are all with her in spirit. A gentle hug for you Csarina.
Have a good day all and ((((HUGS))) for those wanting/needing them. Take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
csarina my thoughts are with you xx
Day off today , I have to go to the dentist this morning as I think I have an abscess on one tooth and a crack on another:(. Then this afternoon I have a physio appt for my back . This will be my 3rd appointment and it hasn't improved as yet , fingers crossed today's session will help
The washing basket is overflowing so need to tackle that and give the house a good going over , it turns into a tip while I'm at work
Have a good day everyone xx0 -

Scampi met my nephew (almost 2yo), I was a bit worried so we sat in the kitchen with the stairgate closed, Scampi was in the hall. They were interested in each other and Scampi was very calm so I let him in – he went straight to his favourite toy and dropped it at nephew's feet and they played fetch for 20 minutes! I was thrilled, he's still scared of children but has now met two littlies (always on the lead with the other one, when we're out and about) and been good with them.
I've vaxed the kitchen carpet, Scampi has gone back to not wanting to pee outside when the ground is wet. Grrrrr. He'll happily play in the garden, then pee as soon as he's back indoors. We're back to taking him into the garden on his lead every couple of hours and giving treats and lots of praise when he pees out there. I'm getting vinyl in the new year.
I feel the need to clean today, not sure where that came from, lol. There's not much to do so I've taken inspiration from JackieO and have decided to sort through my kitchen drawers

Morning All
Very mild here and a bit breezy, I'm sure rain will show it's face at some time today.
Just made some biscuits for the builder, I'll drop them off with some money I owe on my way to work.
My colleague and I wore elf outfits to school yesterday as it was our secret santa coffee break - I got a great personalised gin glass and can of G&T, very nice. Management also bought us a lunch of lovely party food so a good day all round.
csarina - I keep thinking of you, hugs to you all.
2 days to go at work, hospice party this afternoon. Take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone.
My tree is up on the coffee table, sparse baubles, lights which don't light and in a yellow bucket (covered in wrapping paper) with rocks in to hold it up.
Yesterday I did the pork joint and it turned out so well. I'm so chuffed. Later I picked up a friend off the bus from Glasgow and took him home, was rewarded with a very lovely G&T from his wife and a hug from his wee son.
Today the builders are coming early doors to fix the crack in the flooring through which the water is rising up into the hall. Later on they'll try to level the floor properly as it slopes down from the crack into the living room. I've had the dehumidifier running all night to pull some water out of the carpeting.
Gosh, I was warm in bed last night and didn't need to light the fire at all in the evening. But it is raining here. Again. Still.
I got excited by the space launch and downloaded the ISS app which shows where the station is and gives forecasts of when it's in range to see. So far there's been too much cloud. Reminds me of the Billy Bragg song when he sings about wishing on a satellite.
Enough waffling - must get ready for the builder invasion.
Thanks for the duo of songs tru.
Csarina - doubt you're around but you and your family are still in my thoughts.
Camelot - you're so brave dressing as an elf!
Happy Thursday everyone.0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It's a very mild day here today and I am on babysitting duty. My grandson was sick most of the night so there will be a lot of handwashing going on today as the last thing I want is to get ill before Christmas. My eldest DD has an appointment at the ENT clinic which she has been waiting for ages for and her children broke up from school yesterday so I said I would watch them for her.
Hubby and the girls are off to work/school and Max is in disgrace. He has got into a very bad habit of chewing again and has destroyed an innocent wicker bin last night. He has chewed through his bedding too and I am very worried he is going to eat my settee so I have ordered a large dog cage for him to sleep in at bedtime as that is the only time he chews.
I need to get some money out so will ask my daughter to get some for me and charge the electric key as well or else I shall be sitting in the dark this evening. I've hardly had the heating on at all yet so the gas is holding out really well. If there is enough left over I will buy a chinese takeaway for tea. Just the usual tidying up to do today and of course the pieces of bin to clear up too.
Csarina, I am holding you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
I hope you all have a peaceful day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning all,
well today is going to be the last day i'm taking my blood pressure and recording it. I think 4 days of readings is enough. I'll pop them down to the surgery tomorrow and pick up my form for a blood test to check my kidney function. I wonder if my GP will pick up on the ridiculously low readings.
Panic stations here, my Grandson is ill. For a time i thought i was going to have to take him to the doctors myself but my daughter has managed to get him an appointment before work. Looks like i'll have my work cut out today with him. His other Nanny had him yesterday afternoon and all she could get out of him was "I want my Mommy". I'm so glad i was never put in that position but it could be said that if she didnt have so many holidays, spend so much she wouldnt have to work.... Gosh that sounds awful doesnt it? Saying that, i wouldnt want her turning into me. 50+ and done nothing and only good at looking after people.
Anyway, we will see what today brings.
Still thinking of you Csarina. Much love.
Onwards and forwards,
have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Morning everyone,
Dry and so mild here, we are promised a bit of sunshine this morning which will be nice as its been grey and dull for so long.
Spent yesterday afternoon with my DM, she wanted to put some fairy lights etc up in her windows. For the last couple of years one of the families down her road have popped a leaflet through the door encouraging residents to decorate their homes and make the road the brightest in the village. They have an open house drinks party as a way to say thank you which is a lovely way for Mum to meet up with her neighbours, especially in the winter when people tend to stay in more. Have to say that her little bungalow looked lovely by the time we had finished, very cosy and Mum was thrilled.
Today will need to catch up on chores and hope to take my boy out for a ride, think we both need a bit of fresh air.
My thoughts are with you Csarina xx
Take care everyone xx0 -
Judi never undervalue your role in caring for people its one of the most important things any human being can do.It will be remembered long after you have gone whereas holidays will not.Your grandson will think of you when he is a Granddad.
My late OH would often talk about his Granny as both him and his brother had to be looked after by her when his widowed Mum went to work in the munitions factory during the war to help make ends meet.
Her tiny widows pension didn't go far bless her and it was an essential to help feed her two very small sons She was only 28 when his Grandpa died and he was 3 and his brother 2. He hated his Mum having to work but his Granny was always there for them.
I look after my DDs sons and have done for the past 8 years and last night at dinner at her house the youngest one said 'Trust me' and my DD said "Mikey you sound just like your Granny":):) apparently I say it often and I didn't realise
, but he has picked up quite a few of my expressions, and also the boys over the years have come to know the value of cash and how to budget.
The next boy up Henry if he goes to buy anything will look for the best buy for his cashsounds awfully like myself
bless him.
So Grandma's are very useful in passing on things, and the children seem to take more notice of Grannies than their own parents.
I know if I go into their sitting room and say 'What a mess lets see how quick we can clear it up I'm timing you' I can get it done so much quicker than if one of their parents come in and yell at them:):):) but then I have more time to spend, and make a game of it .Often its 'stick and carrot' that works better than yelling.
Today is the last of the present wrapping days and I will get everything together in the spare room ready to be loaded into my car next week when I start my too-ing and fro-ing between my two DDs for around 10 days over the Christmas and New Year period.
Csarina I cannot imagine how you are feeling today honey, and we are all thinking of you and your family. Much love and hugs being sent to you all virtually xxx
I hope everyone else today has a peaceful day whatever you are doing

Good morning all,
Thank you Tru for both carols.
We are going to visit friends this morning with Christmas presents. He had a double bypass in the summer and has now had a pacemaker fitted so he has been in the wars a little. It will be good to see them both.
Judi, just as Jackie says, never underestimate what you do for people. I have always helped and looked after our 3 grandchildren and our 22 year old granddaughter lives with us. On her Christmas card to us this week she has written "thank you for everything you have done for me this year". You are appreciated, but sometimes it is difficult for people to put it into words. All I ask is our grandchildren think of us kindly when we are gone.
It is a bit overcast here this morning, I am not sure whether it will brighten up.
Csarina I cannot imagine what you are going through at the moment, I just hope you receive some answers in the fulness of time. I know you have been through a lot recently and life must seem very unfair, but know we are all thinking of you and the family.
