well I know I could buy one of those Brita thingy's, and I know I could just drink tap water, but I do like the taste of filtered or bottled water, but even if I filter my own , it stll costss money for the filters. So, how can I do it without it costing anything?

We had a similar problem but our fridge was also on its last legs, so we dicided to get a fridge with a water dispenser. The water is nice and cold all the time and the water is always filtered. You can get the fridges with ice makers too which is a nice option. Ours is great!
I thought id just let you know this option! If your fridge is on its last legs or you just fancy a new fridge currys and comet do alot of instore deals which are one offs so maybe you should pop in to your local store and see what they have available! We got ours for around £499 but you should be able to get them cheaper now but make sure you look online first on websites like pricerunner and then go in the store and ask them what the best deal they can do for you. Buying a new fridge is alot of money and stuff but its great if you can do it! Filtered water all the time!
heres a link to the kind of fridge:

Just a note though - you do have to replace the filter in these dispensing fridges albeit once a year (depending on useage) and they cost about £70!0

If you drink through closed teeth will that filter the water enough?
This is known as a Teeth Strainer and is useful for burst tea bags too!
Seriously now...
Most of the bad "taste" associated with tap water is due to the chemicals that are added to keep it "clean" If you have a glass jug you can store your day's water requirements in the fridge overnight and most of these will evaporate.0 -
You can use charcoal to filter water But you have to boil charcoal first
Put muslin over a bowl, then plenty of cotton wool, then charcoal, then more cotton wool then more muslin. I used to do this while on hiking trips to puriefy the water as i couldnt stand the taste of boiled water cooled downTHE SHABBY SHABBY FOUNDER0 -
is it a full moon today? I've got visions loads of boy scouts running around with sackfuls of cotton wool, muslin & charcoal, drinking water through clenched teeth. !!!!!!!!! LOL
Seriosly though?
& unfortunately, I havn't got a spare £499:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0 -
Yes it is a full moon.
A friend of mine has a water filter system under their sink so all their cold water is filtered.

You could put a WANTED on your local Freecycle for an under sink thing (or indeed a jug filter et al!)0

When we had our Samsung we got filters delivered for around £15 http://www.pozzani.co.uk they even send you one, again, after 6months & auto invoice your credit card!
Will definitly have another big fridge with the ice & water dispenser, at the new house!
BUT onlyget the plumbed in sort - cant see the point in the pour your own water into a container & fiddle about with it built in sort!!
May as well stick with a Britta container rather than do that!
