What to expect

Hi all, really feeling a bit bewildered and was hoping for some advice.
I was made redundant a few months ago, and although I received a redundancy payment, after clearing off debts it is rapidly running out and I am starting to panic a bit. I have been applying for jobs, had a few interviews but so far I have not been successful.
I am a single parent of two, I rent my home from a housing association.
I have an appointment tomorrow at the job centre after a friend told me I should sign on...I didn't even realise I could or should?!
After 18 years of working and being able to provide for my family I am now starting to panic and really don't know what I should be doing? I really hope to get a job sooner rather than later but in the mean time is their anything else I should be doing?
Can anyone give me any insight into what to expect at the job centre tomorrow, I am really nervous about this.
Really appreciate any help and info
Thanks for reading
