Unhappy with Currys Offer Of a Voucher!

  • I suppose I half expected such a reply. Nothing shocks me on forums these days.

Not sure where not buying from currys EVER again was said!
    BT?

Am item should not have to be repaired at all in the first 2 months let alone 3 times.
However, your idea of fair and reasonable is obviously didn't to mine.

I also said I wanted money back and not vouchers, what's wrong with that? I didn't pay in vouchers, I have got out of this machine the expected use from currys own words yet I am considered unreasonable

    Oh well

Thanks again to the helpful ones on here

No longer wants to buy anything from currys ever again, for whatever reason.

Can't honestly see any issue that would warrant such statement of not purchasing from currys again, guess some people are unreasonable.

The funniest thing is that the items are made by MANUFACTURERS, who will get their brands into a good number of stores similar to Currys. There is no guarantee that any other similar shop will be trouble-free with inherently faulty goods!

And even funnier is the fact that Currys have organised a few (presumably free) repairs with minimal hassle, then offered vouchers (can't blame them for wanting to keep a customer's business!) and eventually giving a cash offer WITHOUT the need to involve the courts/independent fault reports.

I'd personally prefer to :T Currys here....

They dont want o buy from Currys again and I dont blame them

    That implies it....

It is not ideal BUT life isn't perfect. Some items are going to be faulty!

In the eyes of the law, SOGA allows the seller to repair, replace or [partially] refund AT THEIR DISCRETION. They can attempt a reasonable number of repairs, and 3 is certainly reasonable. I'd say 5 or 6 is pushing it a bit.

Nah, not going to knock you for wanting cash...

but when you got what you wanted, you said:
    which is okay I suppose

    Which is a bit strange.

    No pleasing some people.

    Guess this was the timeline.

    Purchased June 2014 for £250.

    Machine been repaired 3 times.

Not happy, phoned currys who referred to manufacture.

Called manufacture, told to go back to currys.

Phoned Currys, offered £125 in form of vouchers.

Visited MSE and asked for rights.

Phoned Currys same day asked for BT instead and received BT.

How about putting the op's statement that they would no longer buy anything from currys again in the proper place on the timeline of events? I think you will find it was before they were offered cash.

Still why let facts stand in the way of condemning a poster as unreasonable.

I also think the service currys offered was poor. I suggest the op sticks to companies that value good service e.g. John Lewis.

What is strange about the response "which is okay I suppose"? Sounds the natural response to being offered the minimum acceptable solution after a bit of a fuss.

To me "okay I suppose" means acceptable - but not great. Does it mean something else?

Well it is a bit weird because OP had a minor victory in getting a cash refund instead. They also haven't quibbled about the refund amount. But in fairness I understand your point too.

I'm just a bit skeptical because it is a SOGA query and the OP may not be entitled to a SOGA resolution. The vouchers may well have been a goodwill gesture (good customer service) and the bank money may be excellent customer service. Nothing YET to disprove that line of thought.... (tip, only OP can disprove it with evidence)

There is sometimes a fine line between excellent and average/poor customer service.... As I found out a few years ago :D (offering customers a really strong goodwill gesture right off the bat, having them kick off and then the manager offering them less! Proper fun times! I only did it maybe 2 times haha)

You don't state the brand or model, but for £250 you would only get a bottom end washing machine using the cheapest and poorest quality components. Such a machine can be expected to last between two and maybe five years depending on the number of cycles. An offer of £125 back was extremely generous, as it's worth nothing like 50% after 18m. Probably worth less than £50 if working secondhand.
Currys do not have to offer anything under SOGA unless you proved a pre-existing fault, which you didn't.
Nor do they have to offer cash-this is a goodwill gesture only and to get a cash refund is a very good result. DSG are a notoriously poor retailer, but I struggle to see what they've done wrong in this instance.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
