Weird Problems With Firefox

I have had some weird issues with this browser.
A few weeks back, the active part of the browser window shrank as the small grey bit above the taskbar expanded by itdelf to about an inch. This makes the useful part of the browser annoying small. It will not allow me to drag it back down again and seems stuck. I deleted Firefox and reinstalled but it was still the same.
Also, it refuses now to let me copy from the browser and paste.
Any ideas what is going on?
Thanks.

Are you using the latest version of Firefox?
Have you tried doing adware and spyware sweeps?*removed by forumteam - please do not advertise in signatures*0 -
does this happen if you make the window full screen? Also is there anything in the grey bit, or is it like another toolbar with nothing in it? If you right click on one of the existing toolbars, is there one that you don't recognise? If so you could try unticking it and seeing if it goes away...Te audire no possum. There is nothing in the grey box.0 -
When you reinstalled Firefox did you start with a fresh profile?
If you run Firefox using the profile manager ( -P option after the path to firefox.exe) and select a new profile is the problem still there?Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
