From adverse credit card to mainstream card

in Credit cards
When using a credit card for adverse credit risk. I.e. an Aqua card , capital one, vanquis etc. Does building up an history with these companies (with an increased credit limit over time) give you a better chance of being accepted for a mainstream card maybe a 0% or balance transfer card.
I came into this world with nothing and I'm gonna leave with nothing.

As long as you stay within your limit and pay (preferably in full) on time each month then I'd have said it's got to help.0

Yeah it does, that's the reason why we have these cards to build up a good credit history on our reports to head towards the perks of 0% mainstream credit cards etc.0

Hi
I have had both Vanquis and Aqua, and after 6 years, I now have Barclaycard Platinum with 0% until August 2016 so it does work. I still use my Aqua reward for when I go on holiday for the 0% foreign transaction fee0 -
How long did it take you to get to the mainstream credit cards, not the full 6 years I hope.0
-
In my case it took five years but it took me cleaning up my credit files and over that time taking out various starter cards to build history and eventually you will get mainstream and the benefits they can provide.
It is a slow process that requires some work on your part and of course the advice on this forum.

It took me the whole 6 years due to BR in 2009.0

Thankfully I have nothing bad on my files apart from a few more credit searches than I'd like on there, so hopefully won't take as long for me.0
