How to choose a insurance provider

Hey guys,

We exchanged on a property today and now sorting out the home insurance. I have heard so many horror stories about people being screwed over because of minor technicalities and blatant poor service so this is one thing where quality far out performs cost.

I've been on Compare the Market and have got a few quotes. Problem is, I don't know how to choose! Which are the reputable companies etc.

Can anyone give me some guidance about what to look out for etc?

Many thanks!

Its not exactly perfect, but you can use this as an indication as to how good the policies are. Just take it with a pinch of salt.

There are many more good stories but most people only tell the bad ones.

Any friends or family to make recommendations?

Good reviews are spam and bad ones need to be taken with a pinch of salt.

So many people turn to the internet first rather than contacting the company to see if its a simple remedy.

  • The best thing to do is go into a high street broker. They can ascertain your needs and find a policy to meet them.

In addition unlike doing it yourself online (where the onus is on you to ensure that everything is correct), as long as you have provided the broker with all of the information, the broker would be liable if the policy did not meet your needs in the event of a claim.

Brokers will also know how the policies perform based on customer experiences and can advise you accordingly.
