as we were waiting for the completion date ,our MA wrote to us asking for our further payslips and the tax credit award letter .we sent in the payslips and i told him we had called HM revenue to sent us an award letter as l had misplaced the award notice .however my bank statements did show how much l was getting in tax credit.

No wonder the tax credit system needs reforming if they are so generous people are buying houses with them.

    Ignorance

It`s simply proof of declared income

If someone is in a position to be buying property, then they shouldn't be claiming benefits. They might be legally entitled to them under the rules, but it doesn't make it morally acceptable though.

    Question

Couple A are buying with help to buy and no tax credits

Couple B are not using any help to buy schemes available but buying with income from employment plus working tax credits

    Whats the difference?

Benefits, whether its JSA, ESA, tax credits etc should be for those who are in real need. As a person who funds this, I believe I have a right to comment on where that money goes.

It should be used so people don't need to use food banks and the like, not to be purchasing property!

You don't know where every pound of tax goes. None of us do. The tax system isn't a democracy otherwise boring but important things such as the fire brigade and rare disease treatment would never be funded.

Also, high housing costs don't really help the economy and for many people buying is cheaper than renting - which means they have more disposable income and pay more VAT back into the tax system.

    Its all the same pot

With the ever increasing cost of living , working tax credits are pretty vital , to `normal` families and i think its quite naive of you to suggest anyone receiving them shouldnt be buying a house
