No the new oven is the tenants property, I don't understand why people seem to think the LL inherits this property.

Removal of the old oven would fall to the tenant, unless the LL wanted to keep it (assuming the tenant had permission to dispose of it)

DO NOT REMOVE THE LLs PROPERTY. It is his to dispose of after you have left having had a full inventory checkout! Next thing, he'll be taking you to court for damages or you him to obtain your deposit. (depending on which one of you files first). NO, NO and NO!

He was going to fix the oven and changed his mind, may do the same further up the road. Leave it in situ and buy a microwave with oven - not expensive and easy to take it with you when this occupancy expires - like the oven!:)

Apologies for the absence, Christmas was crazy here... we eventually replaced the oven at our own cost and the faulty one has now been sat in our dining room waiting for the LL to arrange it's collection, as he previously stated he would, but conveniently seems to be "unavailable" to contact again.

We were under the impression that as the property was rented with the oven included, upkeep would be provided... he sure as hell was quick to demand we replaced a bit of ripped lino when the damage was our own fault... we will be taking the new oven with us when we move, thank you for all the responses

I didn't realise this post brought to an end the cookergate saga., but yes I can see that cooker sitting there for well past your occupancy. Don't trust this snake. Hope you had a good xmas and the oven issues were resolved in time.
  • Its sad that this is what tenants have to do when a LL refuses to repair white goods that were in the property when they rented it. But, unfortunately, its not unknown. Problem is all the arguments on here mean nothing.., if the LL refuses to do the repair, reality for the tenant is that they face an uncertain outcome waiting a couple of months for a case to go to court after already waiting for the LL to do a repair.., or buying their own replacement. Which is no choice really. Or they can move out of course (once fixed period of the tenancy is up).

And there are LL's that take advantage of this.

I suppose the only consolation is the tenant has had 'free' use of a cooker they liked, and now they have a cooker they can take with them. Problem is a lot of rental properties have built in cookers. Mine has an extraction fan that goes no where, the bulbs blew on it and its so old I can't find spares for it anywhere, I have already replaced the oven and the hob has only three working rings. Its ancient as well with no way to source spares. No repairs offered still, four years later lol.

Dreading eviction day but I'll be buying my own oven this time!
  • Best to check Shelter (call them too, they are great).

    Wish you the best.
