Accidental damage

My DH was replacing an old fan in the bathroon. He dropped the drill and not only damaged a glass shelf on the mirror (which is fused to the mirror), the drill landed on my beautiful Laufen sink and cracked it across the shelf and right round the underside of the bowl. After giving a suitable verbal reprimand and calming down a bit I have checked the wording on our insurance. The policy says "damage arising during or as a result of cleaning, dyeing, alteration, restoration, repair or renovations" is not covered. I'm not sure if this means any sort or repair (i.e. to the fan) or repairs being carried to the specific articles that have been damaged ( i.e. the sink and mirror). Any ideas?

What part of the policy does that quote refer to?
Do you have accidental damage cover? If so you should (hopefully) be covered.

Also have a look as many policies include A/D cover automatically for sanitary fittings.
You may find it has a different wording under that section of the policy0 -
We've got AD cover and the wording is under the accidental damage bit but I think it might exclude the incident as the fan was being replaced. Its a bit confusing because the mirror/sink itself was not the subject of "cleaning, dyeing, alteration, restoration, repair or renovation" but the damage was caused as a result of the fan being replaced (renovation?). I think I'll just call them. Will telling them affect our premium even if I it turns out its not covered.0

It's not confusing - you are covered.0
