Was this for a set meal or the usual a la carte menu?

I've been on many works do's where it's just been an a la carte menu and have never been charged for no shows. The deposit has just been take off the total.

I have not had no shows for a set meal but I would expect that to be different. If there was some no shows I'd negotiate with the restaurant first, but if they insist on payment I'd insist they brought the meals to the table.

They would have lost money if they hadn't charged the OP for the no shows. As they did, it's the OP's loss.

What the other posters are getting at is why should the restaurant not charge the OP and incur the loss themselves, when it's nothing to do with them. The hypothetical loss has been outlined in earlier posts.
But they did charge for the no-shows so the comment about losing money was superfluous.

I know what the other posters were getting at.

They would of lost money if the no shows hadn't been paid for...and then to then give a freebie would again put them at a loss.
But the no-shows had been paid for.
