Help to Buy ISA: What do i do with excess savings?

Hello,

I am looking to get a Help to Buy ISA. However as I have more money in savings, I will have quite a bit left over when I deposit the initial £1200.

I am a PhD student and have a Postgraduate Current Account with Santander, which only pays 2% interest on balances up to £2000.

Does anybody have any ideas on how I structure it all? Should I look into getting a proper current account (don't know if I'm eligible as I am a student, although I do get an annual stipend) and get interest on higher balances? Or do I keep my postgraduate account and open an online savings account at low interest? or should I look into split Isas?

I just want a help to buy ISA but I also want to max out the interest on my excess savings.

Thanks!
