use polystyrene to fill big gaps between floor boards you can squash it together to put in then it expands when inplace just cover it with a bitof wood filler. A few years ago wen we sanded our floor we managed to pick up floor stain and varnish at the pound shop so did it very cheap, dont know if you would still get it there but might be worth a quick look.0

Hopefully this isn't a silly question.
We sanded, varnished and then clear laquered our living room/ dining room floor about 3 years ago, but despite using the Diamond Hard clear laquer there's one place which gets the most wear and is has worn through to the boards.
Can you simply varnish over the original varnish, or do you need to re-sand and start again???
I'm really hoping the former as remember what a messy job the sanding was0 -
I think you should be OK varnishing again after a good clean. I'm in the same boat.
You can buy the sand paper seperately and it's much cheaper. Like a lot of things, the consumables provides a lot a profit.0
