What if the owner had intentionally left it open to share ?

Irrelevant, what about the OP's obligation to security terms with their bank/credit card company?

    Read the original question!
Should I use this for on-line banking? How great is the risk of theft of passwords, CC numbers, etc?

    Answer NO.

Which part would that be then ?

    All of it.

I guess you're completely oblivious to all the exploits and cracking tools there are for networked computers?

Do a quick "nmap", see what's connected and what OS/Services they're running, fire off a few exploits for those OSes/services and you're in.

If you've got File and Printer Sharing enabled, you might as well just have them sat there at the keyboard. Password protecting shares is a complete waste of time other than to discourage the casual/newbie.

Also it's easy to log the "secure" URL Hotmail returns when they log on, such as:

    http://by117w.bay117.mail.live.com/mail/mail.aspx?lc=1234&id=123456&gs=true

and use that to connect to their account automatically. (I've altered the numbers so don't bother). Gmail works the same.
