Barclays worst ever * infinity

I applied for a First Direct a while ago and got rejected. It sucked but c'est la vie, got approved for YB just before the switch deal ended so lightened the blow + NatWest Rewards.
Barclays application said it'd take 2-3 days to be reviewed before a decision was made. They then said I needed to arrange an appointment in branch and take ID. 30 minute drive later and "you've been sent here because you've been rejected but we can't reject by email/phone"...it's safe to say my drive back was a bit faster and my music a bit louder.
Are they the only bank with this policy? Whoever made that decision needs to be assigned to a new department/role.
HSBC said on the phone (overturned). FD said online instantly. Tesco & NatWest said via email after a couple days review.

I have my mortgage open with Barclays (transferred from ING). To use online banking fully (i.e. to overpay) I need a savings account. I phoned them up. To open a savings account I need to book an appointment with an advisor in branch.
I do not need advice on savings accounts.
So I haven't bothered for the time being.0 -
