Paying into a Euro bank account while in the UK

I've recently moved back to the UK from the Netherlands, and still have a euro-denominated bank account there. I also have about €80 in cash sitting around my house here in the UK, which came back with me here for various daft reasons. I'll still have some bills to pay from my euro bank account, so is there some way to pay my cash euros directly into that account from here, without having to pay for currency exchange? Would any UK bank be able to accept a deposit on behalf of a Dutch bank?

I do it between UK and France by SEPA (Single European Payments Area) transfer. Also look at Transferwise. Revolut may be good but in the light of my personal experience of it I cannot recommend it.

It would be easier and cheaper to pay from a UK £ account:

The OP wants to pay CASH euros into his account NOT make a currency transfer............
I don't thinks there is a way to do it.
Well there is but it will not be worth while........
Go to Post Office change euro to GBP put that in his UK bank account THEN make a currency transfer.
Not going to be worth it I am afraid.
Better exchanging it with a mate.........

Just keep the €80 for you next trip or for a Christmas present for a relative / friend.

I worked in various places (when younger) and the number of people posting cash was surprisingly common.

So I take it the Dutch bank don't have any UK branches. The only way I can think you could do it is to get a Euro bank account with another bank which has a branch in the UK which you can use to pay the euros into and transfer money free to your other account. This could be a European Bank from any country in the EU or a UK bank which offers a Euro account.

Who offers such accounts? I don't know as I am in the same boat as you, Euro cash to pay into my Euro bank account and bills to pay from it. These accounts are often expensive with monthy fees or have high minimum balances. Might be easier to get a ferry or plane back there to pay it in?

I doubt that a Dutch bank will accept cash by mail for deposit. These days often the only way to deposit cash is using your own card in a machine, they may not handle it any other way. Mailed to a friend in NL who can then make a transfer would be best.
    Evolution, not revolution
  • Yeah, there's really no point me paying to go there - I'd use more money than that on the return trip! There's also no point me converting it to pounds and then converting it back by sending it to NL - if I've got it as pounds I'll just use it as pounds. I was just wondering if there was a way to save the conversion costs, which are only going to be a few quid, by putting it in the Euro account I'm already paying for...
