Insuring a 2nd car - FluxDirect no good

My brother has a second car to insure because his insured car is in need of repair.
He tried getting in touch with FluxDirect & when he was able to get a person they went to put him through to a department & he was cut off after a few mins in the afternoon. Has called numerous other times but just can't get through.

So...

Let's say he has 2 years NCDs on that policy.

He has this 2nd car which now looks like he'll have to go through another insurer (needs it sorting today). When it comes to asking how many NCDs he has should he be putting 0 because the 2 years are tied to the other policy?

If he puts 2 then he'd have to get in touch with Flux I guess for proof - but he can't even get in touch with them to give them more money!!

Of course the accidents/claims would need to be applied like on the existing policy I would assume.

He can only use the NCD on one policy at a time. So he has nil NCD to use on the new policy unless he cancels his existing policy prior to taking out the new one.

Yes all his history of accidents/claims etc will have to be declared to any insurer he approaches for quotes
  • Alternatively SORN the car needing repair and transfer the insurance to the 2nd car whilst the 1st one is repaired
  • The knackered car would still need to be insured though especially since it's £8k worth of car. This second car is only a £400 rot box. Plus he needs to drive it down to the garage that'll be doing the work.

Would be helpful if flux would answer their phones & not cut people off but he'll have to go with another company tonight.

    Thanks for the replies guys.
  • If he is over 25 there are companies (usually brokers) that will mirror the NCB on to the new vehicle and give a similar discount that takes the 2yrs in to account. Most won't do it if he's had any fault claims or convictions in the last 3 years though.
  • Yeah that's the problem - he has. 6 points & an accident.

Got in touch with FluxDirect in the end. They wanted £2.5k for a little Saxo. Hastings 1st or whatever they're called wanted £1.1k. Still a lot for a Saxo but a damn sight cheaper.
