Return request for an item that is brand new buy buyer says not

Hello everyone,
I'm after some advice....
I have had a couple of emails and then a return request for a top that I sold as brand new without tags.
It is brand new and has never been worn.
The buyer is claiming it smelt funny (it's straight from a manufacturer) and that it is out of shape, which it isn't as shown by the photos I put on the listing.
I think she's received it and realised that she's paid way over the odds for it - she bid 5 seconds before the auction ended, then didn't pay for exactly 48 hours.
I don't know what to do. It's new, I paid extra on the postage to send it signed for as I had a feeling she was going to be one of those buyers and now she wants to return it.
I stated no returns but of course, I'm going to end up having to do it. I clicked on the start returns process but it doesn't give me the option to say she pays postage.
I know there's no point moaning but I'm really upset about this. I only sell things that are as I decribe them (as a buyer and seller on ebay, I think it's only fair) and then of course I get one of these!

you don't have to accept return unless your a business seller, but of course they could then open an item not as described case, personally I would let them do that and fight it, but I know a lot for the easy life just accept a return0

Thank you for your reply! She emailed me with the latest details of it then opened a case saying it arrived damaged.
If I fight it do I just go through the send buyer a message option?
I thought if I do that I can always say she has to pay the postage. I refuse to pay again for postage and be out of pocket when there is nothing wrong with it0 -
If she is claiming it arrived damaged then if you do not accept a return or refund she can escalate it. Once she escalates it then it is up to Ebay to make a decision. There is a good chance Ebay will decide to force you to refund them without them returning the item.
Others will tell you to fight it, but then its not them that will lose money. Personally I'd accept the return. Block the buyer and then relist it.0 -

What money can you lose fighting it as opposed to accepting it?0 -

You will have little to no chance of getting your item back if you lose. Personally I think it is best in these cases to get your item back, block the buyer, relist and then at least you get something for your item to make up for the loss of selling to the original buyer. Its up to the OP to decide whether to risk it or not.0 -

Any number of things.
1. Item not returned as ebay refund without requiring it.
2. Item returned having been deliberately damaged by the buyer.
3. A non resolved mark on your dashboard - there is a tiny percentage leeway allowed. Go over it and it will cost you your account.0 -

ah right ok, assumed that it would have to be returned before a refund,
but on point 2 couldn't that happened anyway?0
