O/S Daily Tuesday 15th December 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
DH up and gone to work early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him in a bit.
Still dark, damp and dreich.
Dinner last night was sausage, egg, beans, mushrooms and chips for the menfolk. I had jacket potato instead of chips. Tonight the hairdresser is booked, so I’ve decided to cook a joint of gammon, I need to get that in the oven as soon as I get in from work and it can cook whilst hairdresser is here and hopefully, it’ll be ready for when she’s finished….. I’ll serve hot new potatoes and peas with it, so nothing to difficult.
Work yesterday was a strange day – I opened the doors at 9am, and I’ve never opened the doors in all the years I’ve worked there on a Monday and there’s been no-one waiting to be served – that’s what happened yesterday – within 30 minutes the office was rammed and we had a queue of customers to the door – it was very busy all morning with waiting times of over an hour. Then we had 2 customers come in together who absolutely reeked of cats wee – I mean really smelt disgusting – to the point where customers were coming in and comments were “oh my god it really stinks in here”, “this place stinks, it’s disgusting, we should get a f……ing discount for having to wait in that stink” mmmm, cheers how do you think us staff feel when we have to work in it, then sort it after the customers have gone?! Unfortunately those customers needed assistance and were waiting at the time where waiting times were in excess of an hour so they were sitting in the waiting area in the middle of the office. Boss came out from the back office and discreetly came to me and said can you get the keys and get the front door on permanent open setting for a while so we can see if we can do something about the smell. My colleague then got the air freshener and used a whole can through the office area and she bought some fabreeze and we sprayed that on the fabric of the chairs once we’d closed last night so they can dry overnight. These customers had been left 2 hours when we closed yesterday and the cleaner came in and straight away said whatever’s that stink? I know people haven’t got much money, but I just don’t understand how they cannot know how bad they smell. Luckily for me I’m working at the other office today, so not back there until tomorrow, hopefully all will be sorted by then.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Dry at the moment, hope it stays that way.
TA - Hope your tooth survives the festivities!
Gers - Enjoy decorating your tree!
tru - Your carols stay in my head all day.
Mrs LW - Have a fabulous time, your descriptions are so real I feel like I am there with you.
JackieO - Hope you manage to feed DGS Ben up before he goes back!
Had to drive up to DDs again last night, she forgot to print tickets for an event she and friends are going to in London on Thursday and also forgot the Oyster cards for tube travel. She is meeting friends there but she is just flying down for the day. Mum to the rescue again! At least she cooked me dinner.
Picked up another christmas pressie that had been ordered on Sunday (very quick service) so just waiting for one more to arrive and apparently that is on its way.
nmlc - Hope the smell has gone when you get to work, we have a Grandad who comes in for his GS who is a bit whiffy, the air freshener comes out when he's left!
Have a good day, take care. XX0 -
Morning all. Yuk nmlc you described the stink so well I could almost smell it! It beats me too how the people themselves can't smell it as well, they must get immune to it I suppose.
No two days are alike just now. Yesterday really cold, with the heating on all day. This morning we have fog and feels really mild.
Today's appointment is for Mr TA at the Oncology Dept at St James. His monthly injection is due. We need to be on the 9.30 train and what's the betting that it's heaving with Xmas shoppers off to spend their money. No doubt it will be the same on the return journey, when they are coming back laden with bags. Bah humbug, I hate being among throngs of people at the best of times, more so at Christmas!
I have some hm liver and bacon casserole out thawing for Mr TA when we get back. I have never liked liver myself so a tub of chilli is out for me. And two pieces of bilberry crumble for afters. (NB Must make some more as stocks are now low)
Have a good day (((HUGS)))) to those wanting/needing them. LW are you ok? Safe journey Mrs LW. Take care all xxxx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -

As I was sorting my diary yesterday I realised 2016 is a leap year so I had to make another calendar  The diary is filled in, I'll do the calendar this afternoon.
Scampi has finally realised that if I leave the house, I'm not abandoning himHe always howled as soon as I shut the front door and would be waiting in the same spot when I returned, but the last few times he's been left alone he's stayed quiet as I've left and has been in his bed when I've got back. I want him to keep this up so I've been popping out every now and then. He could do with it again today but I have nowhere to go. I'll leave with miss tru when she goes to work later and see where I end up

I'm feeling a bit lazy today so I'll just push the dyson around half-heartedlyI can't be bothered with food so will just have soup.

Blummin heck it's cold , me and the cat are fighting over a hot water bottle :j
Off to work , it's a horrible place to be right now , I should be grateful that I have a job but I really need to think about moving in the new year , I think my age may put people off employing me now though
Going to get my Xmas food shopping when I've finished work today , not the perishable stuff obviously but everything else if I can
Right must dash. ((( hugs))) to all who need
Have a lovely day everyone xx0 -

Very mild here again I would like it a bit colder if possible please it does not feel Christmassy enough !! Got my tree decorated last night and my cards written out most of them are hand out ones but I have a few to post, will get that done Thursday on my day off.
Meatballs for dinner tonight, will get ours put in the sc before work will then just have dd's to cook when we get in and cook some pasta.
Got to start on my xmas food delivery tonight, I booked a slot ages ago but need to actually fill my trolly.
MRS LW have a great time it sounds so beautiful I would love to go xx
TA hope all goes well today xx0 -
Morning everyone,
Damp and dark here but still mild, just doesn't feel right although love the effect it's having on our oil tank.
Yesterday afternoon was smashing, spent couple of hours with my eldest niece who gave me a lovely head massage and then tidied up my nails which really suffer with me having a horse etc. She is such a smart cookie and is making a real success of her business. Then went with DSIL to pick up younger niece from college, she had been on a field trip and had got back too late to catch her bus home. Ate with them in the evening although DSIL grilled the top of the pizza instead of baking in the oven, she has one of those combi type ovens, the salad was good though :rotfl:
Will see my lad this morning, then need to catch up on housework this afternoon but will pop into town to pick up some fruit and veg as its market day and use the trip to fill the car up.
Nmlc - urgh, sounds like those people travel with their own aroma.
Tru - good to hear of the progress with Scampi's confidence.
Ta - hope all goes well with appointment and the journey is not too stressful.
Have a good day everyone and take care x0 -
Morning, thank you nmlc for the thread and tru for the musical interlude.
I have decided to go in later today as I have three days involving early evening work this week. Been up since 4 but went to bed at 10 so not bad.
Went to li*L yesterday, thought I might try their conditioner and shower gel but have managed to buy shampoo and hand wash, it all gets used up though.
We are all on a section 188 at work, this means that there will be another round of redundancy notices at some point. Last time, I was hopeful until I found that these would not apply to me because of the job I do, and since then, have been told that I would never be offered this because of being over retirement age. Rats,.
Another damp and dismal morning but rather nice not to have left in the dark. After work will be near a big cc op where bread is baked in store and they often reduce the bread towards the end of the day so will have a look on the way back.
Hope you all have a good day.
ps can still smell that cheeseI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning everyone.
I'm still tucked up under the duvet but will move soon, promise. It's very grey outside or maybe it's dark white!
Yesterday I bought tree decorations and lights, I have no idea how they will look , just have to wait for the tree. It's coming off the estate so I think they are trudging around looking for a suitable wee one.
Last night on BBC Scotland there was a lovely documentary about the steam puffers of the west coast, a bygone time. That was followed by an episode of The Vital Spark' - so much nostalgia was fabulous. The last puffer is so well known here.
This morning I'm going to collect my ordered pork so will roll up my sleeves to attempt the recipe. It may take some time. The builder won't be coming today, I'm guessing it'll be tomorrow as torrential rain is forecast and he'll want an indoor job!
TA - I hope the journey goes well and you both manage to get seats.
Tru - thanks for the bells and well done with Scampi
Sistercas - it's your skill set that employers are more interested in I find. I'm 61 and got myself two casual and one part time jobs...and I'm retired. Application forms shouldn't ask your age either so shortlisting is on merit.
The farmer is chugging up and down the lane on the big red tractor taking bundles of hay to the sheep and cows. That's my cue to get up and ready for the day.
Happy Tuesday everyone.0 -
Morning, morning, was awake at silly o clock this morning and so excited I should be banned!!! Off for a prune to the hairdressers at 10 and then on the train at lunchtime to DD1. Candlelit school carol service in the Cathedral this evening where I apparently have been made an honorary member of her 6th form tutor group choir (until they hear the first note that is) if I can sing at all as I'm still full of glue from a head cold. She teaches tomorrow morning, home at lunchtime and take Pushkin cat to the boarding kennels and then off to the airport for wonderful Berlin time!!! We fly back late on Sunday night and will sleep at her house before coming back to Hampshire on Monday. We're on a very early train so we're going to treat ourselves to coffee and a bacon roll from the buffet carriage for breakfast, yum! Look after yourselves while I'm away and I'll catch up on all your news when I'm back next week, Lyn xxx.0
