Lost SIM contacts - how to restore and import into an iPhone?

Options
Another plea for help from me.

So excited was I at finally ditching my rubbish smartphone for a new iPhone (5S model), I went straight to my provider to expand the contract (more minutes, data etc now I have a phone I will actually use!). I realised that the iPhone takes a smaller SIM and assumed that I could easily trim my existing SIM down to the micro-size. Alas no, I found that it it takes a nano-SIM but this was no problem for the provider to fix for me. I didn't think this would be a problem as I store everything (numbers, contact details and messages) on my SIM. Unfortunately they haven't actually transferred.

I can't put the SIM back in my old phone and back up onto Google as it now won't fit. How do I restore this data from the SIM?

I'd normally check this forum / do a thorough google first but have a conflicting deadline ths evening :o

There are (very cheap) adapters for SIMs, but I don't think that you actually need it. What "rubbish smartphone" is it actually? Can you just put the smaller SIM to the bigger space and fix it temporarily with cellotape/bluetack/... or DIY the 'adapter' from, say, an old bank card ?

Thanks for the tip, I'll give the DIY sellotape / adhesive method a go....

Are you sure your contacts are really stored in the SIM, not in the phone and the google account?

I found that when I went from Android to iPhone my contacts wouldn't transfer. I had input them from scratch... a pain in the !!!! to be honest! I think iPhone contacts are stored on the memory as oppose to the sim card (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Then when you do a back up they're in the cloud (or on your computer if you backed it up on there).

So start inputting again! Put your old sim back in your old phone (with an adapter or home made version) and manual transfer them!

If you used the Galaxy Ace and linked it to a Google account, then your contacts should sync with your apple pie device without issue.

Open the Settings app on your device.
    Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    Select Add Account.
    Select Google.
Fill out your account information in the following fields:
Select Next at the top of your screen.
Make sure that the "Contacts" option is turned ON. The switch should be green.
Select Save at the top of your screen.
After you've completed setup, open the Contacts app on your device, and syncing will automatically begin.
