720p Expensive TV vs Cheap 1080P TV

720p Expensive TV vs Cheap 1080P TV

Put my new cheap Monitor which outputs at 1080p and it looks worse that my TV which only 720p. Yes there is 600GBP difference between them but there is also 6 years.

    Is there a question there?
  • Chances are you've not collaborated it correctly, or the old set is plasma and a decent six year old plasma will easily out perform a modern LCD TV.

Plus the fact the set can do 720p or 1080p is entirely dependent on what it's receiving.

The difference is that they may look the same, but they have very different frequencies and qualities.

People think a computer monitor is just an expensive TV - it's far from it.

What is the source? Is the 1080 screen down-scaling, or is the 720 screen up-scaling?
The scaling in a monitor is usually pretty rubbish, as the source (some graphics card) will usually do the scaling for it, and do a better job of it too.

Do both screens have the same refresh rate (@jshm2's point I think)?
