PPI claim

I'm hoping someone can help. I took a mortgage through a FA at Mann countrywide estate agents and feel I was misold the mortgage insurance. I was told at the time I would not be able to get the mortgage I wanted without this insurance but was not given the choice to look into my own. My own fault maybe but as I'd never had a mortgage before and trusted the FA I just went along with it and took the insurance out. After a while I cancelled it but would I be able to claim now?

Mortgage brokers have low complaint rates with PPI and most they do have get rejected. So, whilst it is possible you were mis-sold, it is not as easy as the bank.

As you word it that would be a mis-sale reason (unless it was mid 90s where packaged deals did exist). However, it is the weakest of all complaint reasons as almost certainly you have no evidence to support your allegation. It is quite possible your memory has weakened as well. For example, a common mortgage broker requirement is for you to purchase the insurance from them to get free mortgage advice. That model is allowed as long as the insurance is suitable.
but was not given the choice to look into my own.

Not a requirement with an adviser/broker.

When did you do this? Most mortgage brokers only became regulated in Jan 2005 (so only sales after that date can be complained about). Some do have to consider earlier ones but you are also time limited on those all, albeit a bit longer.

You really need better complaint reasons too as your current ones are very easily rejected.
