Duvet smelling fresh?

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can make the duvets smell nice and fresh? I wash the sheets etc but can't fit the duvet in the washing machine and dont want to take it to a dry cleaners so just wondered if anyone had any tips? As I love it when my bed smells all nice and fresh and has that *just washed* smell and feel to it. Dont get me wrong the duvet doesnt smell smell it just doesnt smell fresh when the cover isn't on. Hope that makes sense.

Thank You

Do you have an outside washing line where you could hang it & give it a few hours airing in nice weather? If not a mix of water & a few drops of an essential oil in a pump spray should give it a lift, be careful to use soothing oils not invigorating ones as you don't want the new scent keeping you awake at night;)

If I know its definitely not going to rain and I have a spare quilt then I hang the quilt out overnight. It may be a bit damp by the morning but I leave it out most of the day to make sure its dry. Otherwise I wait for a lovely blowly day and hang it out all day and into the evening. Makes it lovely and fresh.

I take our quilts to the laundrette as their machines have far bigger drums.

On the continent, they hang their duvets outside the bedroom window daily, to "air" ;)

I did the old grape treading job on mine in the bath. Mid summer, so I could give it a good blast of sunshine to dry it out properly, and when I didn't really need to sleep under my duvet anyway. Hard work though!

I always turn the bed down after getting up and open the windows as wide as the weather will let me and air the bed for a few hours before I remake it.

I do this after reading that you sweat a couple of pints out every night. Urgh.

My duvet does not smell. But don't think I could say it smells fresh.

Not very money saving I know but I buy new duvets twice a year as I don't have anywhere to wash/air the current ones :o

Yep, having spent 3 years living in Germany I can vouch for this, every single morning you would see all the duvets being hung over the windowsills, perhaps we ought to start a new trend? :D

Tip: To assist in getting that "fresh" scent to your duvet, give it a spritz with water with a few drops of lavender oil in it, each week when you change your sheets and covers. Lavender is also good at aiding a restful nights sleep.
