Tesco fiaseco after changing payment date

Hi everyone I hope you can help me.

In October I rang up Tesco credit card to change the payment date from the end of the month to the beginning. The adviser said that this would take a few months to complete but it could be achieved, the October statement was to be the same end of month date then November and December would be on or around the 13th then from January it would be on or around 1st.

The November payment wasn't taken and the card was blocked. I rang them and they apologised and said we should have been told to pay an amount straight away to stop the account going into arrears while the date was changed. We paid this amount and were reassured that it was all sorted and the December payment would be on or around 13th.

The statement was produced and it did state that the payment would be taken on that date. However when I checked the app on Saturday, the statement had changed to say a payment would be taken on 1st January, the card was blocked again.

Rang them on Saturday morning, they said that the date had been changed twice by two advisers and that was the reason for the mix up and that the card was in arrears again. We paid the money to bring the card up to date and were again reassured that the next payment would be in January.

Checked the bank today and the full payment for this month has been taken today but no record of the payment taken on Saturday. Credit card is still blocked.

I will be ringing them tonight but just wanted to know if anyone had any advice on how to deal with this? I have never went over the credit limit and have always paid on time with Direct Debit.

Thanks for reading and hope you can help.

  • Hi, I went through this experience with Tesco about a year ago!

My suggestion is to make a full complaint in writing and then sit back and wait. The ended up giving me around £50 for my trouble. I'm quite happy for them to mess up again in future if they want :)
  • Thanks for the reply, i'm going to write to them as you said and then transfer the balance to another card.

They've now taken two payments for this month leaving us a bit short!
  • No problem. I checked my paper work last night and yes it was £50 they gave me in the form of a statement credit.

It took several weeks of waiting though so be prepared to be patient!
