Credit file question

Hello!
First posting.
I have just received a letter from Red Castle telling me that they have purchased a debt. They confirm that they are writing it off, but that the debt will remain on my credit file for six years as if it wasn't paid. The wording is:
'Please note that because you have not repaid thr balance due in relation to this account, if your credit file shows a balance is outstanding it will continue to do so for a period of time no greater than six years...'
Is this correct? How can I get this taken off my record?
Thank you so much!
Anders.

  • What are the details of the debt? When did you last acknowledge it/make a payment? When did it default? What do your credit files show?
  • It was a Quick Quid debt of about £400. Last paid over a year ago. Not clear what files currently show but will look now and report back. Thank you.
  • In that case, it will show on your files for another 5 years.
  • Credit file shows it was with Gothia. They've obviously sold it on. Defaulted a long time ago. Terrible I know. Paid off now though; albeit it it has been written off...will it remain on my file or show as 'settled' as other debts that I have recently cleared show? Also, if I can't get credit, how can I improve my score...short of clearing everything else that I owe...?
  • It will show on file as being 'settled'?

If they recorded it as defaulted, it will remain on your credit file for 6 years from the initial default date. It will then be removed regardless of anything else.
