O/S Daily Monday 14th December 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
DH up and gone to work early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him in a bit.
Still dark, damp and dreich.
Lunch yesterday was roast chicken, roasties, mash, brussels, carrots, broc, peas, Yorkshires, gravy and stuffing – was all delish, managed to get chicken carcass in a pan with some veg, so now have some stock in the fridge. Dinner tonight is sausage, egg, beans and chips for the menfolk, I’ll be having jacket potato instead of the chips.
We went to visit my parents yesterday morning, and bro and sil were visiting just for the day, really to keep an eye on mum as she was quite depressed because of the pain in her knee from her fall and the fact that she wasn’t able to get out and about, she is mobile now so that has helped enormously, although she is still on crutches. Bro and sil are going to her parents for xmas as they are both elderly and unwell too.
Back to work for me today, probably be another manic Monday – we’ll see. I need to buy some xmas cards, I don’t have any that I would send/give to anyone – DS1 went into the loft to the storage boxes as DH was convinced I’d have loads stashed, I said I didn’t think I had and I he found 1 packet of little cards (the sort the kids use for school friends), so I won’t be sending those out, need to buy some today. We don’t send or receive anywhere near as many as we used to send/receive. So tonights’ job will be getting them written and in the post, I need to get this done by Weds/Thurs – as on my days’ off I have other stuff to do also.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all.
Usual mad rush on a Monday morning from the men as they left the house this morning. Youngest collided with his Dad on the stairs. Dad going down them and Youngest going up them. All I heard was a mighty kerfuffel and his Dad shouting "your going the wrong way". Well the language was a bit richer but you get the gist of it.
Even the dogs stayed out of it this week.
Just the usual housework to be done today. Day one of monitoring my BP. My Gp left me a little note with my repeat prescription a few weeks ago. Best get that done and out of the way.
I feel like I've put on a pound or two over the last few days so for the next few days I'll be going hungry...it has to be done.
Onwards and forwards,
Have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Morning All
Drizzly and miserable but at least we don't have the snow that was forecast. Yesterday was so cold but dry and sunny at times.
All caught up with the washing now thank goodness, DW can go on later when I get home from work. House clean and tidy, feel like I've achieved a lot over the weekend.
DD came over with her bike (she doesn't have room to keep it in her flat over christmas with her visitors), I took her back with the presents for christmas day. Took her to the supermarket on the way back and fixed a handle on a cupboard.
Mrs LW - Hope you are much better and have a lovely time in Berlin.
Last week at work and then 2 glorious weeks off. Hope you are all well and have a good week. Take care. XX0 -

Good morning everyone
Well, that was a very busy weekend. We had the grandchildren staying and also we were Milo-sitting so it was very full on. Hubby was very glad to go to work this morning for a 'rest'. DD15 is getting ready for school but the others are having a later start as they have the orthodontist. Poor DD13 has been very uncomfortable last week as her braces broke but they could only fit her in today to get them repaired.
My sister is coming over this morning to retrieve her dog so Max will be quite sad as they get on so well. Fortunately my sister goes away quite a lot so we have Milo quite a few times through the year. I have also asked one of my friends to come over for a coffee today as well. She is having relationship worries so will need a break. She sent me the most lovely message on Facebook which really brought a smile to my face.
We are going to have pizza for tea so I don't need to get anything out to defrost. The freezer is slowly emptying though just in time for my Christmas meat order to come next week.
Well that's all from me for now. Mrs LW, I hope you have a lovely time in Berlin. Tru, you have inspired me to sort next years diary and calendars out too. I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up too, take care xx0 -
Morning all. As usual I feel like a dishrag. A good night's sleep isn't a lot to ask for is it? A fine day is forecast yet again. Wow two days running!
I have the dentists later this morning. My top back tooth and filling sort of crumbled away a week or so back and this was the earliest I could get in. I'm not sure what they will do as there isn't much tooth left to fill! I just hope it hasn't to come out as there isn't a lot of tooth left for the dentist to grip on to and I can't imagine how they would do it otherwise. I am hoping it can be built up a bit somehow (says she hopefully!)
The topside I did yesterday was lovely and tasted all the better for not doing any beef for a while. There was quite a bit left over so I sliced it into some gravy to warm back up today with the left over mashed potatoes and veg. (Just hope I am up to eating some after the dentists!!)
Oh I was gutted for Anita last night. With a different partner I'm sure she would have made the final. Why did Gleb have to keep bending the rules and spoiling her chances. And who could have done a proper salsa to that stupid choice of music anyway?!
Have a good break Mrs LW. No-one has Christmas markets like Germany do they and I am envious! Last I went to was Cologne - it was huge and amazing! (But Krakow, although much smaller, comes a very close second. That was just magical)
Have a good day all ((((HUGS))))) to those wanting/needing them. Take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning all, a damp and dismal day here. I often put the washing on in the small hours for DH to hang out while I am at work but not worth it today, will leave it for another day as the rack is still festooned with stuff airing.
MrsLW thank you for reminding me about cheese cages, somehow I had forgotten about those. Not that I am about to get one for my camembert but it brought some good memories of my early 20s. Cheese now in a plastic box and three plastic bags, one heavy duty, I can still smell it but not as much. Sooner or later it will have to live outside, in some ways I would rather just eat it now and get other less stinksome cheese for the holidays but since I am the main consumer of cheese and DH likes only camembert that wold not go down too well.
I will be off go work in a minute, a bit later than usual as am likely to be late back.
Last night we had a small chicken, roasted in soy sauce, lemon, honey and sesame oil, with some french bread and Y'S spinach salad. I have a little salad left, normally would take that with me for lunch but I think it will be nice with a piece of fish tonight, the chaps can eat a large meaty meal before I pitch up.
Slept a lot better the last two nights, still tired from cumulative sleepless nights but not feeling as dead on my feet as I did.
Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all,
Too dark here to see what the weather is doing today but its been quite mild recently and not at all right for this time of the year. Got our tree yesterday and its up and on its stand but not decorated yet I will do it over the next few days, I also need to write out the few cards I send and get them posted.
We were supposed to be having chicken for dinner tonight, we have some yesterday and it was on the side wrapped up and I asked OH to put it in the fridge before he went to bed, he forgotso its been out all night and its so mild here, so I am not sure I will risk it !
My turkey is being delivered at work today so I had better get some money out this morning to pay the butcher.
Right better get on, have good days all xx0 -
Morning all,
Clear out there but still very dark so stars showing, cold enough for me to put my gloves on. Just a week now until the solstice.
Yesterday was lovely, having time to myself, went over to the stables for a while then back home for a lazy afternoon on the sofa, watching Miss Marple and dozing.
Today will be busier, am off to see my DSIL and DN's this afternoon, my eldest niece runs her own health and beauty business so have booked in for an Indian Head Massage, can't wait
Wrapped their presents up ready to take over so that will clear some space. Will be lovely to see them all, it's been nearly seven years since my eldest brother passed away and even though my DSIL has found a lovely person to share her life with, this time of year is always bittersweet for both her and the girls.
TA good luck with the dentist, another one here very sad to see Anita knocked out.
Tru thank you for the carol, well and truly in my head
MrsLW am really quite envious of your Berlin trip, hope you have a fabulous time
Wishing everyone a productive day, take care xx0 -
Morning everyone.
Very dark out and seems very cold, but no frost today.
Thanks for the ChristmS song tru - it cheers up the thread every morning.
TA - so sorry you can't sleep, I can feel your frustration.
MrsLW - still envious! My cousin lives just about 100m off the Ku'damm so right in the thick of it. As for Leberkase, you got my mouth watering at the thought of fried and crispy. Mmmmmmmm. Viel spaße!
I got a call last night asking what size of tree I wanted  Had to admit that I've never, as an adult, had a tree! Never felt the need as we always went away for Christmas for at least a week or more and do it was wasted. That admission brought howls of disbelief but that was nothing compared to when I said that I didn't have any decorations! The upshot is that I'm getting a small tree and may have to zoom up to Oban for some left-over decorations. In life there's always something new to learn.
I wish everyone a good Monday.0 -
Good Morning everyone and thank you all so very much for your good wishes for our trip to beautiful Berlin, I'll try to post some pictures of just how pretty the Christmas markets are, so different to the English style celebrations but it won't tell but a fraction of the true feel, sound and delicious aroma that is Weinachts and the best part of all of it is the Berlin residents who are out with families and friends and being happy, it is a real eye opener and DD1 and I are aware of an ache in our hearts for that 'family' feeling on those years we don't make it over there. Bless all of you, you are GOOD KIND and CARING friends, and make that 'family. feeling come alive in this little online community. I wish I could find the right words to tell you all just how much you do make life warmer and better all round Thank You seems inadequate! Love and lots of it Lyn xxx.
Today will be topping and tailing the whole house and finishing off ironing etc before I go tomorrow xxx.0
