1st time New york city break advice and price help

Ok folks.....i have been married allmost 20 years now and as each year goes by it gets more difficult to get my wife a nice pressie.
So this year i have decided i want to book a trip to new york for both of us for xmas for Feb next year.
This is where i want the travel gurus in here to help.....i can go any time in feb and would prefer a direct flight from manchester or Glasgow...for 3 nights... I have never been but would be a total tourist time square empire state building etc......my budget is £1000 for both of us which is tight but doable i think...if its a little over thats fine.
Any reccomendations...tips advice or even help finding a deal would be great

    Prepare for ice and snow!

Your budget is VERY tight. £364 return flights with Delta out of Manchester 4th-7th.

British Airways Holidays come in at around £1,050 for flights (direct from Manchester on American Airlines) and 3-4 nights hotel accommodation towards the end of the month. Taxis, food and attractions on top of that.

Is £1000 flights only ? Or flights, accommodation, food and entertainment.
£1000 is fine for flights, but won't stretch to the entire trip (IMO).

  • Agree with previous poster - cheapish (relatively) flights but expensive hotel rooms unless you go outside Manhattan to stay.
As this is your first time I would suggest that this would not be a good idea.
Have a look at starting your flights in Dublin - they may be cheaper - freeing more cash for your hotel.

I've been twice in Winter and it really isn't a good time to go.
Consider going after the Easter peak in late April/early May for 4 nights.

  • We did NY in Jan 2012. Flights and hotel with expedia for £1000 for 3 nights x

i think your major stumbling block is going to be getting that price with a direct flight.

for example you could go 12/02 to 15/02, so you get valentines day in NY, for £537 per person if you are will to make a stop with KLM, which will take you almost 11hours to get there or if you want direct you will need to add another £119 per person and fly with united.

I tend to book most of my packages with expedia, remember you can get topcashback/quidco and nectar points too. So i would suggest popping on there and fiddle about as only you know whats best for you. However its normally cheaper if your trip includes a saturday night in NY
Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right

British Airways holidays have this from £509.50 for the previous weekend, 5-8 Feb

And similar for the weekend after Valentine's, 19-22 Feb

Valentine's weekend is more expensive by a couple of hundreds pounds per person (somewhat unsurprisingly, I guess)
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end
