County court summons issued

Yes if I recall they were sent from Northampton courts but I don't know if it was from a bulk servicing centre- how would I tell?
Please excuse my ignorance.
The vast majority of small claims papers emanate from the Northampton CC. It is the bulk handling centre. It's not the court in which any claim would be settled unless it's the one nearest the defendant.
If the papers are from Northampton, then phone them urgently in the morning to see what your options are now.
If it is too late to defend this, and should you continue to ignore this, you're likely heading for a default judgment against you. If that transpires, you must make sure you pay it by the due date, or else you're staring down the barrel of an unsatisfied CCJ with potentially devastating consequences in terms of credit/mortgage/mobile phone contracts etc, etc.
You might be able to negotiate a settlement before court with the PPC - but see what Northampton CC says in the morning - they are generally very helpful (but not in the sense of extending deadlines). Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

As for the date of the court papers I may have unfortunately missed that date deadline- I thought it was dated 27th November but double checking it was the 24th. Perils of busy working distracted me unfortunately. I don't have the court papers just with me but will be home in an hour, thanks for your help.
If the date on the court papers is the 24th November - then you have 5 days from that date for "service" which is deemed the 29th November.
14 days to acknowledge the claim is then taken from that date - so still in time just to do this.0 -
Looks like you have left things a bit late to me. The Ostrich approach that you have followed to date on these 2 cases mean you are now in a bit of a rush and in real danger of losing £740 plus or getting a CCJ by default.
You need to get your defence in - have you got one, by the way? - and pdq,
There is advice on how to deal with a Court letter on here but can't find it for now. Can another regular please supply link???

The Newbies thread makes reference to "Small Claim? See Post #5 below" bur there is no reference to small claims in post #5, so this needs looking at (unless I am being blind...)
With reference to how do deal with a small claims letter - I can't find a definitive guide on here, Guys Dad, though I had a look.
Edit: Found this thread

To the OP - you need to acknowledge the claim and say you intend to defend it as soon as possible, if you're not already past the deadline, you're going to be very close to it.
You can (I think) do this online if it's Northampton?
Try a forum search for Northampton small claims and you should find the detail you need.0 -
Hi all,
I rechecked the Northampton court summons after getting home, it was dated 15th November, so I registered online with the government gateway and filed an acknowledgment of service to defend it.
hopefully that goes thro tomorrow and will be within the (5 +14) days which should actually end tomorrow if my calculations are ok.
I just need to either consider my defence options (do Ihave any??) or try to negotiate I guess- not overly optimistic of that though.
any thoughts?
thanks0 -

You really need to clarify the dates here?
Now you are stating the 15th November - this means that the AOS should have been at the latest by the 4th December.....0 -
apologies regards date.
it is the 25th November dated letter from Northampton courts.
hopefully that means tomorrow, 14th December, is the time limit for response.
thank you for looking at this.0 -

That's excellent, hope your calcs are good.
There's a case thread currently running over on PePiPoo (the thread title is a bit misleading, it's been determined that the PPC is UKPC). Have a read through it which will give you a good starting point for what you need to deal with in the next two weeks.
http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showtopic=103024
You might also want to do a search on PePiPoo for any other similar UKPC threads.
There is a greater preponderance of legal heavyweights over on PePiPoo (those who contribute here on MSE also contribute regularly on PePiPoo). So you might want to open a parallel thread over there once you get confirmation that there's still time to get your outline defence in to the county court.

EDIT TO ADD: Oops, just noticed 4CR's post - 15/11 would surely close the AOS window. Please confirm the precise date.
