    We both know why a flat in London is £450k and one in Derby is £65k. None of this was in dispute. You said you didn't believe there could be reasonable £65k flats within a 2 hour or so commute of London. Well there are.

    If now to be reasonable they have to come with a high wage job then that's a moving of the goalposts especially as we were talking about commuting to a London job.

    No my job is not highly paid, it's middle income.
    The goalposts were specified in post #43.
    No i'm talking about finding a job in Derby not London (you've all argued it's not London commuter territory). There were none for my job title in Derby, so if I wanted to move there I'd have to drop my career completely and get a low skilled low paid job.

    It's not enticing, but forget the single anecdote, the £65k is proof positive that the flats are not sought after by the population at large. I believe that's employment related from admittedly scant research, but whatever the reason it's fact there isn't huge demand for them.

    Anyway if you think you've all solved the housing crisis then I guess you're free to tell your children and spread the word that all they need to do it stooze and move to Derby. It's as simple as That and the housing problem is solved.

    What that flat shows is that in parts of the country there is not a housing crisis.

    I think its all relative, 65k for 1 bed, 125k for 2 and 180k for a 3 bed can feel like a housing crisis on nmw, especially if only one person is main earner (not worth paying for childcare on low income)

    I can only borrow 72k on a mortgage so I had to cough up a 56k deposit to upsize, I'm the opposite situation of who this scheme would help

    I doubt there has ever been a time when someone on minimum wage could afford to buy.

    Average price of terrace in Derby is £77k and a semi is £107k.

    Don't lose perspective. If you're able to buy in London then you should consider yourself lucky and/ or awesome.

    Fair enough, there are cheap fiats where there aren't lots of good jobs available.
    I don't think there is a housing crisis outside of London and parts of the SE. It's been repeatedly shown that outside London houses are affordable so I have no argument with that.

    If one of my offspring came to me with innovative ideas about how to work the system (for want a better phrase), I'd have to stop and think about whether it was risky or an innovative idea and I think the answer would be in the detail.
