Sellers - PLEASE give measurements!

Interested in a ladies coat listed on Ebay. Described as "Medium", "Long". On the listing the seller says she'll answer any questions.
I emailed to ask chest measurement and length in inches (or cms), plus a further question about the coat.
Seller replied, sorry she's away and can't answer the questions.
Medium & long mean absolutely nothing when it comes to ladies clothing - I just purchased a coat marked "Large" - I'm an old-fashioned, standard size 12 and it fits me perfectly! No wonder it was sat on that rail in the charity shop so long - I nearly missed it except I really liked the colour so decided to try it on "just in case". I'm not prepared to take that chance online.
So, any sellers of ladies clothes if your sales are down please check the amount of information you're providing is sufficient.

It annoys me when sellers don't put measurements for things like clothes, but it annoys me more when you get a daft reply back that's no help.
Certain brands I've managed to look up elsewhere and get a better idea.
Even saying size 12 doesn't mean much as it can vary quite a lot between brands. I've messaged sellers before asking for the measurements and all I get back is small/medium/large or size 10/12/14.
With one seller I asked what are the measurements were for a top and if the sleeves were long or 3/4 length as it wasn't clear from the photo and I asked about postage because something was unclear with that. The reply back was about the sleeves and postage. Not a single measurement which was the first thing I asked and main thing I wanted to know. So I asked again for measurements and got back that it was large and they'd say size 14. So just a rough guess by them and who knows what they're basing it on and still no measurements! I have a feeling the listing said large, but maybe didn't look that big, can't remember for sure. I didn't buy the item and it didn't sell I don't think.
I'd say 14 would probably be medium for most brands.
Usually they reply back with what is says in the listing which is no help. I do wonder though if any sellers have blocked me thinking I'm stupid and will cause issues because as far as they're concerned they have the answer in the listing and probably think I've ignored it.
What I can't understand is why people don't seem to get the difference between size and measurements.
Had similar issues with other items. One being a collection of things that was described as new or like new but either didn't describe anything or only mentioned one main item and not whether it came with the rest. Far too many sell just that one main item by itself as new but still state collection when it's no longer a collection. So you can't just assume, but if other sellers don't realise that they probably think you're an idiot for asking

I so agree with you about a 12 not meaning much now - hence the "Large" coat that is a perfect fit. In the "old days" a 12 meant 12, and I think the problem now is that so many clothes are manufactured in countries where body shape/build is different. I won't even expand on the question of those skinny sleeves - OK on a skinny teenager, but on a lady of a certain age - no way!0

I totally agree and put as many measurements as possible on everything. For every seller without measurements there are at least a hundred buyers that don't read them when they're there.
I've had loads of messages along the lines of "Why is this 6 inches long widget only six inches long? I wanted a smaller one".
For selling online there are really only two basic requirements, a camera and a tape measure. Most people have cameras on phones so the only thing you need to find is a tape measure, so if you're completely broke, head to Ikea and get one of their paper ones;).0 -
To be fair with clothes, it really doesn't matter if you put the size and every single measurement in cm and inches. You will every so often get feedback that says "smaller than expected". They of course mean "I'm bigger than I remember"0

I had a message today from someone who bought some items from me, saying she didn't realise the items were for children. Yet clearly on my listing it gave measurements & not suitable for children under 3yrs old  What should I do?

Well, if the silly woman raises a not as described, at least you'll win the dispute:)
I'm a buyer but sometimes (well, quite often really) I do feel sorry for decent sellers when they come up against idiot buyers like that.0 -

I assume the measurements make it obvious it's for a kid not adult? Some things say not suitable for children under 3 but adults use them. So it depends what the item is how obvious it actually is that they're for kids.
You may have to accept a return. You could ask them to return at their cost and apologise if the listing wasn't clear but that you did state measurements and not suitable for under 3s.0 -
I feel you, although for me I wish eBay sellers would put the materials something is made of on the listings... trying to find a nice winter coat on eBay has been a hassle and a half as I don't wear wool, it's a pain having to message sellers every time and often not getting a response... I've pretty much given up now ):0

You can use the ebay filters. You should be able to select materials you want. Obviously you'll get the odd one that's been listed wrong and you may not see others where they haven't selected a material, but at least you should be able to look through a large selection of items that should all be suitable materials.
The other option is to put it in the search. So it'd be coat -wool. You can select it to include descriptions in that and remove all that state wool. While some may be wool and not have stated it it should at least help remove some listings out your search.0 -

I think Katie is saying that the sellers aren't actually stating what the coat is made of, so filters are of no use.0
