Applied for one card but got another

I applied for the American Express Cashback Everyday User cashback card through the link from this site. This card has 21 months 0% and no annual fee, I was approved for a card but confirmation email says American Express Cashback Card which appears to be a different card (with annual fee).

Is it possible or usual for this to happen?

Thanks in advance

Ring them up and ask if there's been a mistake or a deliberate decision, if the latter why, and whether you can change to the other.

I applied for the Luma cashback card a couple of years ago. When I logged into the account there was no cashback field shown. It turned out I'd done something like pressing a back button on the website while applying and the referral had disappeared so I'd ended up with a non cashback version. They said cancel the account and apply for the other, which worked.

maybe you didn't qualify for the original but rather than lose you they gave you another?

but as there's a fee attached to the latter I'd cancel if they claim it's not an error.

You should be fine, I got that email when I opened mine, when it arrived it was the right one (free free).
  • Thanks for the replies. I'll wait to see what arrives. At least I know now I can cancel if not happy.
  • Card arrived and received the card I actually applied for. Thanks for replies.

I'm being lazy and should read terms & conditions but would anyone know if 21 month 0% begins when card is activated or on first purchase?
  • When card is activated.
  • It'll start from when the account was created. Ie about a week before it arrived with you.
  • Really? I always thought that it would be when the card is activated...so we are bound to lose a few weeks' worth of 0% of whatever we're apply for even if the card or the pin is lost?
