£5 a month from the Halifax could be a significant amount for a person with a low income.

There are pensioners and then there are pensioners. I find it curious that it is just assumed without any evidence whatsoever that "pensioner" means "low income" and that is often not the case and very far from reality.

I'm a pensioner and in addition in a few days will be getting my state pension. But I'm not on a low income.

In addition I personally know over several credit and banking applications including MBNA, Nationwide, TSB, Norwich and Peterborough Building Society and limit increases on Aqua that Pensioners are not penalised just because they are pensioners. On the contrary a Pension is a guaranteed income which can't be lost through unemployment and redundancy.

What counts is just the same as everyone else - income, outgoings and credit report.

So why don't we just drop the automatic low income bit when related to pensioners which really doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Ok, it related to the OP but not all "Pensioners".

Please tell the Gideon and his Tory friends.

A family friend is a pensioner gets winter fuel payment, free bus pass and free TV licence with a substantial final salary pension and spouse on a 6 figure salary.

The winter fuel payment bought flights to their holiday villa last time...

I assumed nothing. Low income was a given.

Me too (but in months rather than days)
