Seller blaming Christmas for delay

Just wondering if I am being unreasonable. I ordered a small item at the beginning of the week, posted 1st class on Tuesday with
delivery being Thursday.

It didn't arrive so contacted the seller today and just been told to wait longer because it is Christmas.

I would have thought it was a bit early to be blaming Christmas for delays. It will fit in a small envelope and 1st class stamp.

  • Most things I've ordered have come quicker than expected, some quicker than normal. However, that won't be the case for everyone.

Certainly not too early to blame Christmas. People will have been buying for Christmas since November, some even earlier.

It's always worse around this time of year. I'd have given it until early next week before contacting the seller as items can be delayed anyway and sellers don't always dispatch on the day it says they have or the post won't have actually been sorted until the next day due to the time.

I might have waited a little longer if I hadn't received an order I placed yesterday posted 2nd class. Everything else ordered since last Saturday (15 items) arrived on or before expected.

Things seem a bit up and down with postage. It seems some parts work well and some grind to a halt. I think it is reasonable to wait till Tuesday or Wednesday next week before kicking up a fuss. I have buyers leaving feedback today for things sent yesterday. However I also have a couple of buyers asking where items are that were sent the start of the week 1st class.

I'd ask them again next Wednesday and if they still tell you to wait, then open a case for not received. If they have sent it second class when you paid for 1st or they advertised 1st then I'd be leaving appropriate feedback.

I think it perfectly reasonable to start blaming Christmas for delays. If I had to mark down every seller whose item I've received late in the last week or so, there would be no one left on ebay.

Early? Mail volumes ramp up in early November.
Additional parcel sorting centres have been operation for nearly a month now.
It is now deep into RM's 'pressure' period.

    Logistics are an odd thing.

I can post an item to an address not a mile away but it will travel at least 100 miles with the carrier.....what you have received already is of no consequence. No consequence at all.

I'd agree with this - and what Soolin said too. 1st class mail isn't guaranteed, and can be delayed at any time of year, but it's particularly likely around now. Lots of areas have been affected by flooding, so that may be another contributory factor.

As a seller, I'm finding most are arriving on time, but a handful are taking 1 - 2 weeks to get there.
  • Thanks for the replies and opinions. Although I would have expected an item that is nothing more than a letter to arrive, I would understand if it was a parcel. But I will wait a little longer.

    Thanks again.

    Is it paper thin?
Or an envelope with something of a thickness inside it?
One is machine sorted, the other is manual.
