First steps into savings in the UK

Hi everyone;

I moved in the UK 6 months ago and after discovering MSE I realised I should think more about savings.

Currently, I'm holding a c/a with Natwest and I got a credit card giving me some cashback.
I got c.£4,000 on my c/a... (I know how stupid it is).
When I moved in I tried to open a Satander 123 account but got rejected because I have no credit history in the UK. That's why I'm not sure if opening several c/a to benefit from higher rates is a good solution for me (Should I try anyway?).

I am also able to save c.£400/month, where should I put it?

Thank you by advance for your help, I am still discovering the UK banking system.
