    Thanks for the replies.

Consensus seems to be that i'd be out of my depth.

I'll likely stick with packing boxes then, although still need to speak to my dad and see what he thinks.

    Kind Regards.

Don't let yourself or anyone else put you off, you maybe able to do the job. Remember everyone starts at the bottom if they have no training. Could you ask for a few days work, even unpaid just to see how you get on..You don't have to give your current job up.

I think you are being a bit of a pansy making a decision based on some strangers in a forum just from a few paragraphs you wrote.

You only get one chance at life, so i would say take the job and give it a go. It is just a skill, no different from learning other stuff, so be positive and give it your best shot.

Worst case scenario you hate it, then you can move onto something else.

You will never know if you can do something until you try.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Based on what you say, I think a window fitters mate is the wrong job for you, sorry.
I'd go the other way and try to be more positive.
It might be something that you can EASILY do. Maybe it's just helping move things, tidying up etc.
Might be even easier than your current job with a large payrise thrown in

You don't happen to live in Welwyn do you, pinpin? Just had a mate bit like you and this username sounds familiar, lol
  • Really really do think it would be a good idea to try this job for a few days/a week before deciding you don't/won't ever have the ability to do it.

Remember with most jobs there's a learning curve.

With the moving, it would have been more helpful if someone had advised you on how best to carry boxes as you were doing it, rather than criticising you afterwards. My son has aspergers, I always advise him on how to carry things, for health and safety reasons if nothing else. And there are times he does it another way and its better lol. There are also times I watch him with my foot in my mouth too though waiting for him to hurt himself but he rarely actually does.

But yes, if you think I will do this, its a lot more likely to have a successful outcome than finding reasons to fail.

If I have to do something I don't know how to do, I always watch very carefully how other people do it. I learn so much from watching other people. Or I just ask. Most people love to show their knowledge off lol.

You tube is also useful.., but don't expect to know this stuff straight off or let it put you off.., learn from it and think of ways you can do the same.

Worst case scenario is that s/he could be facing a very long period of unemployment if s/he gives up secure employment to take a flyer at what sounds like an unsuitable job.

I'm afraid I think your advice is quite irresponsible.

I disagree. The job does not sound unsuitable at all. The OP just seems to lack confidence in their own ability.

The OP asked for "thoughts", and it sounds to me s/he has plenty of other skills that are transferable to this new job, which could give him a much better quality of life.

The OP plays piano, guitar and drums. If he can master these quite complicated skills, then with instruction it is unlikely there would by any issue being a window fitter's mate.

Weighing up what the OP has said, I think this would be a good career move.
