WOW!
I didn't realise that there were so many successful mortgage applicants post BR.
If you ask any person in the banking industry you tend to get looked at like you have two heads then the words, "no chance" invariably are spoken.
I think the vast majority of people are just uneducated when it comes to BR.
I am feeling more and more encouraged by your input, it's fantastic.

Another success story here, also with Nationwide.
Bankrupt in 2006, impeccable credit file since and I've just exchanged contracts on a 90% LTV. Get a good mortgage broker - I can recommend mine if you're in the Midlands (not sure if he covers further afield although it's all done online).
Good luck!0 -

Thanks villagio.
I'm not quite there yet. Need to gather a few more quid together for the deposit but I'll bear you in mind when the time comes.
Well done by the way!

I was declared BR in 2008 and got a mortgage earlier this year with Nationwide at a very good rate.
The BR slowed things down a bit but other than supplying a brief explanation of the reasons behind my BR and bank statements/pay slips going back further than the usual 3 months(they wanted a full year) I had no problems.
hi andy, do you mind me asking if you used a broker when applying to nw?
we plan to put our savings so far and continue to save using the nw save to buy scheme, so really hoping to apply direct.
we also have a joint current flexi current account with them too.

Don't get me wrong, it is more difficult to get a mortgage with a BR but it also isn't the impossible task some would have you believe.
Some banks may not touch you so your selection of mortgage providers will be a bit slimmer and you may not get the best rates you could have got as a result(knowing which banks to not even bother looking at as a BR is where a broker comes in useful but a bit of research should just as easily achieve this).
You will probably have to jump through a lot more hoops in regards to paperwork(which is bad enough on a normal mortgage application).
You will find the affordability checks are probably a lot more stringent.
Overall though if you have a good deposit, a good post BR credit record and can afford the mortgage repayments then you shouldn't struggle but a good Mortgage broker who has BR experience will make it a much easier process.0 -

Yes, I did use a Mortgage Broker who had experience with BR's which did help and make it easier.
The fact we banked with NW and he came up with NW as the best fit for us was a coincidence but it did make things a lot easier and in retrospect if we had just decided to go with NW in the first place I think we could have easily managed the process without a broker due to the fact they were already our main current account provider.
If we were going for a discharged BR mortgage with a provider who was NOT our main current account provider I would probably still have used a broker though.0 -

thank you for replying andy.
I do think its worth trying ourselves first and if not then approach a broker!0
