You can buy feeler guage type things to see what size a bolt is... otherwise i'm not sure the thread size for it.
Resetting the ECU may be to reset learnt value for the injectors.... disconnecting battery may do this.
But the injector will likely need programming (depending on engine). In which case there will be a code on the side of the injector. You won't get round this by disconnecting the battery. Sometimes you can get lucky and it start with it in, sometimes not, sometimes will run rough or miss.
If it doesn't start, have somebody crank it whilst you crack off fuel lines to get air out.
I think there's two seals on these, one at the bottom then a plastic collar where they sit at the top inside the head. See if the new injector has the seal.
I'd be inclined to get it running first and inspect for leakages. At least then you can get a leakoff test done and see how you want to proceed with the car.0 -
Measure the thread diameter of the new stud with a ruler, it is most likely M6. (the end that screws in the head may be different to the top)
Then you need the pitch, which again you can measure with a ruler, by counting how many "points" there are in 10mm, if it is the standard coarse thread, there will be 10 (1.0mm pitch) fine will have 13.33 (0.75mm pitch). The coarse is more likely into a cast head.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

You need a hand pump to prime the fuel filter, a small rubber hand pump, draper make an affordable version, clips inline before the filter, pump until it flows out the output on the filter then connect after the filter and take a good half pint of diesel from the output, put the line back on quickly, crack all 4 injectors open and crank until white froth stops and nip that injector up, repeat for the other 3.
It should start first turn if done correctly.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
thanks once again for all the help with this one. To keep everyone updated I have had another look at the fixing holes and although they are threaded, there is still some thread in them lower down so I am hoping that once I have this injector swopped over I should be able to secure it for long enough to run the car for a few minutes to see if the engine is running ok(ish).
I am however struggling to get the injector out again using my own tools so it looks like I may need to invest in a slide hammer.
Will keep you all posted.
many thanks

Hi,
Just FYI, the Focus TDCI can suffer from what feels like a misfire / hesitation if the Fuel Filter hasn't been changed for a while. You may have already tried this but just in case you get it all back together and it still runs lumpy.
My 2007 Focus would struggle to rev when the Turbo kicked in. Overtaking on a motorway was out of the question! I was dreading a big bill for Injectors / fuel pump / turbo but a friend told me to replace the Fuel Filter first - car ran like a dream after that!
All the best getting it sorted.0
