Ebay Spares/Repairs/Not Working

Hi there,

I would appreciate some advice with regards to an Ebay transaction.

Earlier this week I sold a games console as Spares/Repairs/Not working. I stated in the header not working, it was mentioned twice in the description also. I stated I had no idea what was wrong with it, wasn't sure if it was the console or the power supply, but it just wouldn't power up. It was purchased within 30 minutes by a re-seller.

Today I received the following message:

Hi there i took this console to a place in town to sort it out my friend told me it was opened up before as all six Security screws in the back of the console had been left losse so im not happy as you say maybe the power supply unit don't work or the console won't power up why can't sellers tell the truth about the items it's going to cost me £20 to fix so im not very happy with this item

I haven't responded as yet.

I contacted live chat and you can imagine the words of wisdom I received from 'Simi' Give the buyer a partial refund to cover the repair was the best she could offer.

Do you have any advice? I am loathe to give the buyer a partial refund or even take the item back. My concern is obviously any negative impact this will have on my account. I did state 'no returns' but I know the majority of the time this is a redundant term on Ebay.

Appreciate any advice you could give

Did you list it in the 'other category And not in consoles ? If so I think I would chance pushing buyer into a SNAD claim and attempt to defend it on the basis it was clearly shown as only for spares. With the right person in the right day I would think you had a very good chance of winning.

Worst case scenario would be buyer wins and has to arrange to return the item. Many buyers just chance getting a refund so forced with having to return it might just not bother.

Ask them to send it back at there cost that usually works , sounds like the buyer is one of those chancers who knows ebay will be on his side and is just trying it on
