O/S Daily Saturday 12th December 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that need/want them x

Still dark here, dry underfoot, we'll see what happens later, rain has been forecast again.

DH up and getting ready to go into work. He doesn't normally work on a Saturday anymore, but his boss asked if he could help him out - he's got to go to just 1 place wait to be unloaded and then come back. The destination is only 30 minutes away - but it's a massive delivery hub - that's horrifically busy due to the time of year - waiting times are hours - he may have to wait to be unloaded up to 5 hours, but as it's a Saturday they are hoping not! Boys still in their pits. DS1 went out last night, he met his friends when they finished work and went for coffee, then I thought he was staying out with his friends for the evening and would either come home in the early hours or stay over and come back this morning. He arrived home with a friend in tow at 4.30pm ish, to change his top and change into his boots, he'd bought a new top whilst out. It's the first time I've met any of his work friends, and the guy seemed very nice and was chatty and friendly, feel so much better now, didn't spend half the night worrying. We were in bed when he arrived home at 1.30am, he shoved our bedroom door open, announced, "mum, I'm home, and now going to bed". I then couldn't get back to sleep, but was dosing.

This morning I'll be going to town, to visit the bank. Then I want to get cracking with the remaining washing, drying and ironing. DH and I are going to visit the ill family member later and DH's grandfather. I rang him yesterday but couldn't get a reply so left a message and he called back last night, he said he isn't going anywhere this afternoon, so that's when we'll visit. If I get chance I'd like to get some wrapping done over this weekend. It's easier then to see what you've bought.

Was lovely to see my bestie yesterday, had a great catch up but time always flies by and I'm sure we could have sat chatting for a few more hours!

Have good Saturdays everyone x

Keep safe and well x

    Morning all,

Hubby home early last night as he needed to go to the car dealership before it closed.

Last weekend was a nightmare grocery shopping so it was suggested we went last night instead. Worked a charm. What usually takes most of the day was completed in 3 hours at the most. The downside to that was we didn't eat our evening meal till gone 9.

At least it gives us the weekend free. Though we will have to visit the outlaws at some point.

Hilstep, so good to hear your cancer hasn't returned and your in remission. Good news indeed!

I've been wide awake since 5. It's the time Hubby's body clock is set to wake him and of course if he's awake, so am I.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

DGD stayed last night, she was up by 6 asking when we could make cakes!
We have compromised and she is watching tv, we will make cakes later.
Hubby & I both have a cuppa, DGD has milk.
I need to tidy the kitchen this morning so we can make cakes & then tidy up afterwards as well!
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

  • Morning all. Thanks for starting off nmlc. I had a strange night. Wide awake at 2.30 so took some Kalms and managed to nod off again after another hour or more. Next thing I knew it was almost 6.00. It almost felt like a lie in!!

My house blitzing ground to a stop yesterday. Got the downstairs bottomed ok then broke off for lunch. Just going to resume upstairs when DS, GF and Roxy dog came to pick the XBoxes I have been hiding for her boys. They stayed ages and when they left I couldn't be ar*ed starting upstairs so it just got a "where it shows" once over! Considering it's like a disaster zone up there with bags and boxes of presents piled up everywhere and, now, all the boxes of decs from the loft, I think I'll leave the blitzing up there till next week!

At least downstairs has been done so today the decs can go up. The new tree is still in it's box so I hope I like it! Especially for what it cost!

Just when I thought we had finished all the spending, the DVD player decided to pack in yesterday. Emitting loud shrieking noises and refusing to play. So one has been reserved in Ar*os and we'll pick it up later today. It could have been worse, if the TV had packed in it would have been a far more expensive item to replace.

Not given a thought to today's meals yet but want to get a piece of beef out to defrost for tomorrow. So I'll see what catches my eye whilst I am rummaging.

Have a good day all ((((((HUGS))))))) to those wanting/needing them. HILSTEP wonderful news. Take care all xx

Away In A Manger is just the best song at Christmas – the kids have been practicing for weeks and they all sound so sweet, but there's always one who is slighty out of tune. BUT that one seems to sing a bit louder than everyone else because they really put their heart and soul into it and I always think he/she is the best :D

Shopping trip went well yesterday. Christmas is now all sorted, except for fresh fruit and veg. There was a good offer on master tru's fave aftershave so I bought a large bottle and have tucked that away until his birthday in april. I bought a jumper a while ago, it was too big but instead of taking it back I decided to use it instead of a coat while walking Scampi in the cold weather. It's so comfy and looks really nice so I went back to get one in my actual size and they were half price :D

The decs are going up today, or as I like to call it - Operation Tinselation :D I'm going to have to arrange things a bit differently this year, Scampi will probably try to steal the things that usually go on the small table, etc. I can usually get everything done quite quickly (except for the tree, so many lights and baubles! I like to take my time with those) but I have a feeling it'll take me a lot longer this year, lol. I probably won't have time for anything else, I want to have a shower and be in my pyjamas by 6pm :D

    Good morning everyone.

Pitch black outside. I can't hear any wind or rain though I am sure it's raining still.

Had a little problem yesterday - water is coming up from under the hall floor. Our local builder came straight over and explored everywhere. He's found a crack in the concrete where it's coming in so will get that fixed early next week. The place has stood for about 200years so it's got 'aches and complaints' which appear every so often.

Neighbour also appeared after dropping his son at school and did the 10 second job. I did all my online banking jobs and printed off the needed paperwork to do the internal verification which I'll do today.

I have to take an Amazon parcel to the PO this morning, I've never had to return an item before and was very impressed at the process.

MrsLW - hope your cold is on the way out and you're feeling a bit better.

Well, I wish everyone a good Saturday.

Mrs LW, I hope you are feeling better today.
hilstep - Good to hear your news, hope you keep well.
Hugs to all, LW and Molly, special thoughts to you.

Had the work night out last night, it was ok. The company was good, always nice when the different age groups get on so well. The meal was nice but sparse - the starters were soup (not keen myself) or pate. The slice of pate was huge but as I'm not keen on it thought I would just have the oatcakes with chutney. 3 teeny tiny oatcakes! Main course was ok but not many veggies. They did, however, make me a lovely decaff coffee at the end. A little dancing, gave someone a lift to the station and I was home before midnight. Quite enjoyed it but glad it's over.

Washing machine delivery should be this morning thank goodness and someone is coming to collect a wash hand basin that I put on freegle. Need to make a draught excluder for DD, shouldn't take too long and then clean the living room so the tree can be brought in, I think DD is going to decorate it tomorrow.

Hope you all have a good weekend. Take care. XX

  • Good Morning everyone, grey and cloudy here today but not actually raining, I had a really difficult night and couldn't stop coughing so got very little sleep, good job I went into the spare room or poor old He Who Knows would have been awake too. Feeling jaded but better than I did yesterday thank you, just need to perhaps get some different cough medicine from the pharmacy today. I also need to get to the shops as the fridge is looking like it belongs to Mother Hubbard again. Spoke to DD2 last night and she's jubilant at having finally exchanged contracts on the new house, she and DD1 are away on their usual Christmas break weekend, it's something they've done for the past few years, they book into the same little hotel and have a nice meal on Friday evening, have a days shopping in the Christmas Market and I treat them to a champagne cream tea in the nicest hotel in the city as part of their Christmas present, I save £5 a week from the housekeeping and it builds up in no time and then tomorrow they book a morning in the spa and have a lovely relax before going back to their respective homes. It's one of the best things about OS lifestyles that we have the little tricks of the trade that allow us to live a good and not Spartan life on our means and still be able to tweak the cash to save for a few well deserved treats too, 'tis wondercrump.

Hope you're all OK too, and that any of our northern members are safe from floods and other natural disasters after what you've been through for the past few weekends, stay safe all of you, Lyn xxx.

    Morning all,

Looks like it might be a nice day in the making, im going to drop DD at work this morning, then when OH is back from the boot sale we have to get together with next door and find out where the banging noise is coming from, I think its the top of their down pipe banging against the wall no doubt OH will have to get up the ladder while next door man stands around

DD and I are off out tonight so will be picking her up a bit earlier from work, OH can fend for himself food wise.

Might try and do a bit of wrapping later on and get my cards written.

    Hilstep really good news xxx

    Have good days all xx

    Morning all,

Someone else here who has managed a lie-in, woke up at 6am and let the girls out for a comfort break but told them too early for walk or brekkie. Went back to bed and next thing I knew it was 8.45, literally cannot remember last time have slept so long! Bless him, my DOH had fed the girls and taken them out.

So, having a cuppa and contemplating my day, we need to pop into town to pick up a tree and then the decs go up, actually quite excited given my age :rotfl:
Tonight we are out for a curry with my DSS's, it's the youngest birthday on Tuesday so will celebrate that, he is off to Thailand on the 30th so will pop some money in the card, that way he can use it for spending money. He is a good lad, currently having a gap year as didn't get the grades he wanted for Uni but has got himself a job walking shifts to help pay when he does go plus is seeing a tutor to help with re-sits. His brother isn't bad either, proud step-mum? Gosh yes :)

Anyways, better get a wiggle on, given my lovely lie-in least In can do is cook my beloved some brekkie, have a good day all x
