Norton during Startup

Hi,
I have disabled all of the programmed that run in 'startup', including Norton, as I've been having problems during shut-down. However, when I run Norton to check for live-updates and then check the items on startup again, then Norton (under the name of Symantec Security Technologies) reappears and is no longer disabled. I'd have to disable again it, restart the computer so the change takes place, but the problem continues as I frequently run Norton to check for liveupdates. Does anyone know what I can do to solve this?
Thank you very much!

I'm stuck with Norton at work and I hate it.
I'm using avast (anti-virus), Zone Alarm (firewall), Ad-Aware 2007 and Spybot at home. All free, all good.*removed by forumteam - please do not advertise in signatures*0 -
