Amex/Avios

Hello everyone, I'm new on here so please bear with me if this question has been asked before.
I want to make a large purchase (buy a car) I'd like to use my BA Amex card to get Avios miles. Unfortunately most car dealers don't accept Amex. Balance transfers don't count towards Avios. I will also pay off the card straight away. Does anyone know of a way to get around this problem so I can maximise my purchase & get avios?

...and the majority of those who accept any CCs charge extra for CC payments that overweights any airmiles/cashback.

Simply save money by shopping around and use the savings towards the travel.
  • Not really what I asked tho. The list price of a car is the same if you pay cash or by card & obviously I will negotiate. I just wondered if there was a way to get some airmiles as I'm going to spend it anyway

List price is your starting point, nothing more.

Unsurprisingly the dealer will be able to offer a bigger discount when he isn't paying a bank a credit card fee of 2% then when he is.

It depends on the merchant as my local Audi dealership only pays a flat monthly fee to accept Amex, he doesn't pay a per transaction fee. So they are more than happy for you to pay entire balance with Amex.

Find a car dealer that accepts AmEx.

I bought a car and paid the deposit on my BA Amex... quite a healthy amount of Avios there and no surcharges at all.
