Are the Torys real Torys?

As a child, I was brought up to consider the conservatives to be about lower taxes, investing in business and about helping people to become entrepreneurial and take chances.
As a business owner we'ree being penalised and targeted, taxed and caught up in stupid red tape. The party is trying to hit BTL - whatever your views on it, it's a small business that many find profitable. Taxes aren't going down and the rich are still benefitting massively from handouts while there is nothing for the small business.
As an administration the country is haemorrhaging money and despite Osbournes confidence, he's missed every financial target he's ever set. I consider that financial illiteracy and a failure.
So they're bad for small business, bad for the economy and bad for growth.
As the Labour Party to some extent regresses, are the Torys still stuck in the centre ground? Are they really Torys at all it a slightky-to-the-right version of New Labour?

Depends on the type of business you are in I guess.
What sort of sector is your business in?
From my point of view, it couldn't really be better for most business. There are reduced taxes (NI etc), hiring of apprentices (I should say exploitation really) has been made a lot easier too. Funding should be easier to get and so on. I haven't heard of a load of new red tape for small business?0 -
BTL is a business. Not one that benefits the wider economy though. As creates few jobs , doesn't generate exports, nor contributes to financial stability. Nothing entrepreneurial in leveraging with debt and taking a punt.0

some people think that the new pensions and apprentices rules and reg are expensive red tape.0 -

My view on BTL is that as a business it doesn't create or produce anything, but it's a business Governments have been happy to see people start up and invest in. But this isn't about BTL - take that out of the equation and we're still left with a Tory party that's gutting business and the normal guy with higher taxes.0

Why are exports so great? I like to get a haircut, have a pint, eat a bacon roll and have my car serviced locally. I reckon the majority of what I consume on a week-to-week basis is produced locally.
Yes, the TV I just bought was made overseas but I don't plan to buy another for a decade so I'll pay about $1.50/week for it over its lifetime. I spend more than that on onions. Aussie grown of course.0 -
Drat! They fooled me again. I thought labour had become red tories, now the tories are supposed to be blue labour, labour has become the socialist workers party, the greens are still communists and the SNP are the monster raving loony party northern branch.0
