TrulyMadly wrote: »I think "abuse" can be generic and/or specific savvy and yes if something has upset you or made you anxious it might be abuse. It doesn't have to be the high profile types of abuse that we all abhor .....sexual, physical........verbal.......what about financial abuse, institutional abuse....abuse because you have a disability.....abuse based on gender/ age/ religion/ culture.....we could go on and on.
[1] Perhaps the fact that you felt abused means you were?
Yes indeed there's a whole range. There's also things that are "acceptable" between two parties that are considered "abusive" by others. It can be complex, when you consider it in detail, and I don't mean two people hitting one another either. What about two children under age? Is that still wrong? There's grey areas, and life isn't as clear-cut on anything. That MP that apologised for sending explicit texts to a 17-year-old. Yes indeed, actually having consensual sex with a 17-year-old would be wrong but talking about it would be even more wrong and totally inappropriate (I'm being ironic). He apologised, but I wondered what he was apologising for. It seemed to me that nub of it was that he was apologising for "letting people down". Yet people "let others down" in various ways, every day, and don't see the need to apologise for it:huh:. Ken Livingstone suggested that it was because some people would find it wrong with the age difference. So, it's other people's opinions about difference in age that trump on the matter? Yet if the two people, whatever their age (16 or over and not in a relationship of trust where the legal age is 18) had had consensual sex, then, despite some people's view that they didn't like the age gap, that would not have been apologised for I suspect. So. It's because sending texts is even more inappropriate than having sex in a private place.
[1] I didn't feel "abused" though. It just caused me to not been able to continue to do much and experience anxiety feelings. And, why, if someone was "abuse", are certain abuses prosecuted and not others?
In fact, in my view, I think the MP has only apologised because he wanted to avoid being moved out of his position in the Labour Party. So, I think it's completely a political thing and absolutely nothing to do with meant apologies at all. I think it's entirely cynical and purely in order to make people whom he's "let down" feel okay towards him, rather than actually alter anything substantive at all.
:oSorry for moving into politics. Only indirect reference to it though. I'm moving on... 0 -

Depends wether you think it's exceptable to call people greedy !!!!! when they didn't know the full facts.Savvybuyer wrote: »I meant those as questions to be answered btw. Or maybe a moneysaving thread isn't the 'right' place for things to be answered. I don't know. I was just seeking a view or two in order to help me try to understand it better. Such views as may be offered (as long as they are in a reasonable manner:D). I don't think the decision as to what's "abusive" is mine though. I'm told by case law that "abusive" has its "ordinary" meaning. However, what is that?:huh: I've no idea as different people have different meanings that they give to things and therefore no way for me to assess what is "ordinary" or not.
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Laugh out loud!
Anyway, I think we should move on... we don't want lots of posts on this taking up the thread. As that's not its main purpose.
I'm sorry I'm no help - no RTCs of any note for me to report today. I may go to M tomorrow if that helps (or I may not:rotfl:, but probably will). However, I've nothing to report today so I'll shut up as I'm of no use there at all really. (Sorry!)
These would be the same greedy !!!!! that have shared how many glitchies on mse such short memories people have on here.
Edit... Not sure how zippy got away with the language when mse filtered for me.
.Ignore reality.There's nothing you can do about it.
I have done reading too!

I've been affected by things more greatly that other people didn't mean or felt was okay, whereas things I look back and felt maybe shouldn't have been done had no actual negative effect on me. I once had a lad at the age of 12 (I was similar age) expose himself to me in the lavatory block at school. Nothing happened after that, I walked out normally, I wasn't physically affected in any way. Yet, despite that, and despite the fact that it was both children - I didn't "consent" as such to it (and couldn't give consent at that age anyway) but I didn't have any problem with it - all it was he showed me his private part - but that could still be considered child abuse nowadays by some outsider (or by myself when taking things to literal extremes). It's had no affect on my life though. Other things seriously have.0
